All free TV channels in the UK

Have a look at Freeview Channels | Freeview which is the 'official' Freeview website listing of all channels available on Freeview. None of them suggest there are any Indian or Hindi specific services, though some channels may provide some programmes aimed at the Indian/Hindi-speaking audiences.

Several of the regular contributors to this website have explained all that before. I'm thinking of people like jb38 who regularly contributes here.

Worth noting that *all* Freeview channels are available free. The one aspect that is not 'free' is the current requirement to have a Broadcast Receiving Licence for your location to cover all TV reception, even live programmes viewed on your computer, but it doesn't cover the delayed viewing of 'catch-up' services as they remain outside of the TV Licence remit.

On Sky, the PSB services remain free to view and it is not essential to have a viewing card, though having one inserted does help to show the 'local' services as you suggest. The encrypted Sky channels and the recording facility on a Sky+ box are unavailable.

Freesat, like Freeview, is freely available to view by anyone with suitable equipment, again with the proviso about the TV Licence.

Heathfield (East Sussex, England) transmitter

Oxted Post Office has a code of RH8 9EH. Some of Oxted is served from Heathfield but there are huge areas not served by this.

Kevin Farley, if you can give us a more accurate post code, someone contributing to this website may be able to work out which transmitter(s) is most suited to your exact location.

An amplifier is very unlikely to help as it would seem that your comment about the trees is most significant. Possibly resiting the aerial so that is can 'look' past the trees might help, or maybe a longer pole so that it looks over the trees - but that may become a problem again as the trees grow taller.

If you provide a post code, or that of a very near shop perhaps, then the reception and topographical maps can be used to ascertain the locality of trees, hills, etc and maybe determine which is a suitable transmitter for you.

If indeed it is carried by Sky, then any Sky subscriber will be able to receive the programmes. If Sky provide the service in an unencrypted format then those using the free Sky services are likely to get it as well.

However, the Notts TV website at
NottsTV Video on Demand - NottsTV Nottingham Video on Demand
does not mention any addition of Sky providing their services.

I'm not yet 70 but my wife is over 75 so we get a 'free' TV licence because of her age (she'll kill me to telling everyone!). The rules are that anyone over 75 is elligible for a 'free' licence and everyone in the same household benefits from that concession. But you still have to apply for a licence and have the 'proof' to hand just in case the investigators come to call.

Thanks for that update. However, it concerns me that those who are not users of 'social media' could miss out in the new means of getting Notts TV. Why do they assume that 'everyone' uses such services? Many younger people probably do but many older people probably do not.

I have to agree that Sky being about the only source of F1 is highly annoying as you have to take the whole 'sports' package. I have been a vwery keen fan of F1 for many years, having been involved with motor sport since the sixties at club and semi-professional levels. But I vehemently dislike football these days and will not pay the expected exhorbitant sum demanded just to watch a few hours of F1 and nothing else. If they offered a totally separate F1 subscription, I might consider it. I do object to having my normal Sky subscription increased just to pay for the massive sum they offered to show some uninteresting (to me anyway) football games that are in reality a commercial ploy. <rant/>

Please would you give a post code (or that of a nearby shop) so we can determine your approximate location. Would you also be a bit more explicit about your equipment and what the problem appears to be.
