As there are reports of such rec[etion difficulties across the southern part of England it seems highly likely that the weather is causing disruption. There is nothing anyone can do to remedy this as it is a perfectly natural occurence that has been observed, off and on, for more than 60 years (since we started using RF signals at frequencies that are affected by such temerparure inversions).
Whether you movce to Freesat is your choice. The TV licence is irrelevant to natural events.

There are reports from much of southern England of such reception problems and it likely to be due to the weather conditions. There is nothing anyone can do to change the situation, a change in weather will do that anyway. Do NOT retune your TV set under these circumstances.

Very unlikely to be due to the fog itself, but rather the probability of a temperature inversion due to the current weather patterns being experienced mainly in the southern parts of the UK. Because such payyerns are variable it is likely to give rise to the reception variations you report. Do NOT try retunin g when this is occuring.

It has been suggested that the recent warm days have given rise to atmospheric conditions that can disrupt TV reception. As there are many similar reports from around the southern part of the UK, that would seem to be quite likely. Do NOT retune your TV set under such situation.

You don't indicate which part of Wiltshire you live in. That is essential information to work out which transmitter would be the best to use and whether there are any significant interuption to the straight line signal path from that transmitter to your home. In any broadcast system using RF signals, there are inevitably some unfortunate areas that are either poorly served or not covered at all. Local terrain, for example, can have a serious effect on signal availability, as can local buildings, etc.
Without further detail of location it is impossible to suggest any potential solutions.
