I have to say that here in the North Wales coast area,most aerials are Group W,directed towards Winter Hill.There are a few Group C/D 'contractor' type,but i would expect these will be replaced with Group W type.

MikeP: Totally agree with the comments on the use of a Log-Periodic aerial,in preference to the Yagi type. In mentioning the former type of aerial,it appears that many Households in North Shropshire,have Log-Periodic type aerials fitted,in preference to the Yagi. I haven't seen as many in the North Wales coast area,where the Triax 'Unix' type or the SLX,seem to dominate. For the record i have a Wideband Televes DAT45,located on the end wall of our house.It's a bit like overkill now,as it was originally used for the pre DSO 10kw erp&lower Mux's,from Winter Hill.
Regarding who should foot the bill for replacement aerials,i took this issue up,with the consumer rights people,in 2010,just after DSO,at Winter Hill,Llanddona&Moel y Parc.Their opinion was that viewers had no real grounds to claim compensation for having to replace aerials or associated equipment,because of the change to DVB-T from Analogue.

Stuart Owens: All along the North Wales coast,the signal from the 2KW ERP local mux,from Winter Hill,is receivable with good signal strength and quality. It will be interesting to see if anyone who receives the Welsh transmitter's,report's that they have lost Channel Four at EPG location 8. Certainly with the re-tune on the 3rd September,2014,i am expecting some enquiries,from puzzled customer's.

David Roberts: As an experiment,i carried out Two re-tunes,on different receiver's,which had a Channel Four,located in EPG position 8. One displaced Channel Four into the 800's,placing BayTV Liverpool in position 8 and the other,placed Bay TV Liverpool in the 800's. So it seems there will be variations in EPG position for Bay TV Liverpool,on those receiver's that are receiving a Welsh Transmitter,as well as Winter Hill.

Michael: There aren't any reception problems from Winter Hill,on any of the Mux's,that i am aware of. Ray's problem must lie somewhere between the aerial and what follows it. In the case of tv's,i usually 'factory reset' them,before doing a re-tune. It's also worth pointing out,that the sensitivity of RF Tuner's fitted in tv's does vary between brand/chassis type. If the signal from the aerial or distribution system has dropped,to a marginal level,some receiver's may still work and other's may not!

There's definitely an imbalance going on here.UK Freesat receivers and the channels associated with it,are freely available in the Irish Republic,yet the Republics TV services are blocked to UK Freesat and BSKYB. The Irish Diaspora yet again lose out. I have a work colleague,a Native of Co Mayo,who is really disappointed that Irish TV has ceased Broadcasting. Yes,the Irish Government could have taken over the running of the channel completely,as it was great publicity for Ireland as a whole. Perhaps an opportunity missed. RTE continue to plead poverty,as usual and they are set to pull the plug on their RTE Radio 1 Long Wave service,in 2017. Surely with spot beams of the satellites now tightly targetted on the UK,surely RTE,TV3 and TG4,could be made available in the UK?

Great News. Having a battle in the North Wales Coast area,as Freeview Post code checker won't recognise Winter Hill as a received TX,in the North Wales Coast area. Need to spread the word as we fear politics of the Cardiff Bay variety,have scuppered any public awareness programme. Most of the North Wales Coast is heavily dependent on the Winter Hill TX. Cheers to js for posting the update. We can now proceed to do battle with customers equipment.

As of October 23rd 2019,the Local Mux's are now off UHF CH56. MUX LM Manchester is on UHF CH24 and MUX LL Liverpool,is on UHF CH21. Not the best Frequecies to use as Divis from Northern Ireland,flies in here on the coast,even under the slightest High Barometric conditions. Interestingly,i can receive the Manchester Local MUX here in Colwyn Bay,so must assume that the Directional Aerial system is not in use?

Can i seek clarification for the benefit of Winter Hill's North Wales viewers who are not getting any info an the Two Re-Tune events,Dated 20/02/2020 and 22nd April 2020. Even us in the TV Trade are getting No upto Date info. Having tackled Freeview.co.uk,they don't seem able to give me any re-assurances that both the TV Trade and viewers will receive the relevant info,concerning Winter Hill.

Anthony: The BBC B Mux,on ch54 from Winter Hill,was also problematic here,in the North Wales coast area. In periods,when high atmospheric pressure is ongoing,The ch54 Mux usually suffer's more reception problems than the others. It should be noted that there is a Mux from the Kippure transmitter,in the Republic of Ireland,rated at 60KW ERP with Horizontal polarisation,also on ch54.Given that in Analogue day's we could receive the 100kw ERP transmissions,in VHF Band 3,with no problem,it may be that the ch54 service from Kippure may cause problem's. Even in 'No-Lift' conditions,the signal strength and quality on ch54 is constantly varying whilst all the other Winter Hill Mux's including the Liverpool local one,are steady!
