As you know from your email enquiries, many people don't know the difference between FreeVIEW and FreeSAT - and who can blame them! To my mind, we should have a universal set of non Pay-To-View channels which should be delivered by all platforms, then it would be up to the viewer to choose the most suitable receiving method.

We would the be back to what in "the old days" we used to have - just "Television" and no need of these silly branded so-called companies Freeview and Freesat.

I have asked a friend who live in Mallorca about his experience and he replied:
"My existing dish is 1.60m and fine. My handy man has been working on 1.30m dishes which have lost some signals and by adjusting the LNB has restored the signal. There are also BBC and ITV regional signals that are stronger than others and might do the trick. A friend in Portugal has been asking for similar advice."
I don't know what "fiddling with the LNB" could do unless he changed it (perhaps) for a lower noise to signal ratio. Anyway, he also tells me that, as you would expect, there is a lot of talk amongst the UK expat community. Some information he has suggests that the Freesat signals are stronger than those from Sky (using a Sky box). Could this be so?

The BBC announcements mention that "long-form" BBC3 content will be shown on BBC1/BBC2 after 22:35. What does "long-form"mean?

The problems with Online viewing are that:

1) High-speed broadband is needed (fibre, preferably) and many people (us included) in rural areas get 3Mbps at best. Usually OK for some sort of SD but not reliable as speeds drop in the evening (from contention issues)

2) "Extras" are not included: specifically, sub-titles are not available. As someone who uses subtitles a lot, virtually always for any drama, this is a big problem.

So, for me, Online and Broadcast are not interchangeable.

On the latest website (revamped?) my personal info ("Tony Hill's posts", etc) has disappeared. Is there a "logging-in" procedure to bring this back, or ???

Thanks

Briantist:

My "Home" page has disappeared again. This happened some time ago and then reappeared and now gone again. This means I cannot see any of my old posts, etc.

How do I get it back?

Tony (of Higher Eype): We live just to the east of Dorchester and are almost at the western limit of the Meridian (Rowridge) area. From Weymouth westwards, West Country is the ITV area with a transmitter In Devon (near Plymouth?). How is it you don't point your aerial there?

I like the present TV licence system very much. Being an OAP, the BBC is free to me!
