Richard Wells: The coverage prediction for your mother's postcode shows that COM7 (the multiplex which carries Talking Pictures) should have a good signal. Try a manual tune from the HD box's menu on C32.

StevensOnln1: Did the manual scan on C32 but it did not bring up any channels. Looking at the channel list it has nothing in the 100 range at all. My mother also has a small TVs in the kitchen with built in freeview and this to scans and picks up. Channel 81 with no problem so why not the other tv with the HD box.
Is it an antenna problem. The Ariel was only replaced last year and instead of being on the roof is attached to the side of the house making it at a lower level than the old Ariel.

Richard Wells: Are you scanning on the TV's menu or the HD box's menu? The HD box should at least get the main HD channels (101-105). Are you able to tune it successfully if you connect the HD box to the kitchen TV?

Richard Wells:
A) are you sure its an HD box (name/model would help)?

B) How is it connected to the TV? If its via a scart, then those channels might not even show up in the EPG.

Ok, so it does have a T2 tuner. And you've connected it via an HDMI cable. There are two other possibilities - the first is that your aerial is dodgy and therefore your not picking up any HD channels at all. That very unlikely. The second is that your tuned to an entirely different transmitter from everyone else, and perhaps that transmitter doesn't have that channel at all.
But I'd be amazed that you wouldnt pick up any HD channels at all.

There is one simple way of dealing with this - send the box back and buy something relatively decent, like a Manhattan - 44 quid.
