Same here, just a load of corrupt picture data. I'm guessing that your freeview+ box is a Vestel like mine, try looking at www.vestelpvr.futaura. co.uk, at the PVR models to see if yours is there, because I reckon there's some fault somewhere that directly affects those boxes

For some weeks now my main TV (Toshiba with integral Freeview) has shown a "service is not running" message when tuned to Film 4 channel 15 from Crystal Palace. However I have a second set with an external Freeview box tuned to a local transmitter (which doesn't have the full range of Freeview channels) and it IS showing Film 4 on channel 15. I haven't attempted to re-tune either set as there have been no on-screen prompts to do so. Also I don't want to risk losing other channels as has happened to some of your emailers above. When exactly did Film 4 change frequencies?

M. Morland-Chapman: It happened around July or August. The reason being that prior to the change it was only available from full-service transmitters.

Space was made on the PSB2 multiplex which is carried from all transmitters. Film4 was put in that space and so the space vacated on COM6 (where Film4 used to be) is now used by Film4+1.

The TV on the local PSB-only transmitter would have had nothing stored under 15 previously so when it did its update, the "new" Film4 got put on 15.

As your Toshiba TV has access to the full complement of channels, 15 is occupied by the "old" Film4 (now used for Film4+1). Thus, if it has checked for new services, it has probably found the "new" Film4. However, as 15 is already occupied it's probably put the "new" one in the 800s. Depending on the design of the set you may be able to swap the one in the 800s for the one on 15.

I take my Freeview from the Beecroft transmitter (Bramley Leeds). I use a Luxor freeview / PVR box. I can record all channels available and they work fine. However when I record Film4 although it records, when I try to play it back all I get is a Black screen. Is this supposed to happen ?

Graham: Have you carried out a retune on your box in more recent times? as in August 2013 Film4 changed from being on COM6 over to PSB2 as used by ITV1 etc, and if you haven't retuned your box its EPG would still have Film4 associated with COM6 hence the blank screen when you try to record it, as although you might well have set the PVR to record Film4 there is no way of knowing whether or not it is actually recording it unless by playing it back.

By the way, its always best to carry out a "first time installation" retune in cases like this to guarantee that the tuners memory has been blanked out, an alternative method is to carry out an auto-tune with the aerial removed then check that the EPG listing has vanished, if it has then reconnect the aerial and carry out a second retune.

I have free view. When I record in any way on film 4 all I get is a black screen for the duration of the film. This then fast forwards through the recording until it reaches the end and returns to the library. This sometimes happens with normal programmes.
Do you know what's happening?

Paul: Just a guess, but Film 4 changed from Multiplex COM6 to PSB2 in the last year.

It's quite possible that your recorder hasn't quite understood this properly.

I would totally erase your EPG (but not your recordings, of course).

You can do it following the instrucitons for your box, or do this -https://ukfree.tv/helpme.php?faqid=1107051116 - if you can't find another way to do it.

This sorts out 99% of problems as you describe.

Briantist:

Thanks for your reply. I followed the instructions for erasing my EPG, but the problem of having a black screen, while playing back the recorded programme, for the duration of the recording still persists.

Thanks anyway,

Paul.

Paul: Do you have access to Film4+1? Could you try doing a recording from there?
