My satellite system gives me all sorts of channels including mostly German channels - ZDF ARD WDR Premiere Sat 1 DSF etc - but for some reason cannot get ANY UK channels?

The channels you have listed are on the Astra 1 satellites at 19.2 east. Your dish is not pointing at the correct satellite.
