If I don't use my FTV sky card and box for a few months I lose the ability

If I don't use my FTV sky card and box for a few months I lose the ability to view Channel 4 and 5. Why?

The card needs a re-authorise signal from time to time. If the card stops functioning, please call Freesat from Sky on 0870-606 1111 and ask them to help.
