Can I use my digital freeview box abroad and receive English channals?
No. You cannot receive signals from UK Freeview transmitters abroad. You box will be able to receive local "DVB-T" transmittions, if there are any.
You can use satellite equipment pointing at the Astra 2D satellite from some European countries however to get around 100 UK free-to-air channels.

I live in the UK but would like to watch French TV (to help learn the language). I have a sky satellite dish, which I believe we subscribe to. Is there a way I can watch the French TV?

Dawn P - The best Satellite for this is Atlantic Bird3 at 5.0 degrees West. You would require the satellite dish or an additional dish antenna to be set-up for this Satellites reception and you are likely also to require an additional FTA (Free to air) receiver such as a Technomate 5000 series - around £60.00. SKY receivers are specifically designed for SKY subscription services. Dependent on where you reside in the UK you may also need to consider a larger dish. Other satellites eg:- ASTRA 1 at 19 degrees South East also has the odd French language channel but the first option here is offering the most comprehensive range of viewing.

Dawn P - It's possible to obtain a receiver designed for an alternative French "Freesat" type service they can be had in the UK, but unlike here this requires a non subscription access viewing card and you would still have to purchase the receiver.

Dawn P: On 5°W (Atlantic Bird) and 19°E (Astra)
you will find a number of free-to-view French channels - certainly enough for you to improve your French. However, in order to receive all the main free-to-view French channels, for 5°W you would need a FRANSAT box or for 19°E a TNTSAT box. Either can be bought in France or via a recommended intermediary. A local French teacher or school technician could probably help further.

I currently have a Goldmaster satelite receiver in Altinkium in Turkey that has over 2000 programmes on of which there is only one English Channel. What system would be best to receive the most English channels on.

what would i have to use to get free view in bulgaria?

joanne : As a terrestrial service, you can't get Freeview in Bulgaria. However, using a suitably large dish, you may be able to receive Freesat.

brian you seem a very busy man! but just wanted to ask a quick question. Im in Slovakia and planning to get some kind of UK tv. i dont have a uk sky subscription or anything at present, what would you suggest the best route was to get as many "useful" tv channels as possible - ive seen endless skyHD boxes on ebay which im told will allow us to watch limited free to air channels without subscription.... or would Freesat give a better route?
thanks in advance. Paul.
