Want to better understand the current TV faults? See the all new UK Free TV page

The "All transmitters with faults and engineering" page has been upgraded to make it easier to understand where the current faults are on the Freeview transmitter network.

The All transmitters with faults and engineering page has be
published on UK Free TV

See: All transmitters with faults and engineering

Following from your suggestions, I have made changes to the icons used to show which Freeview transmitters have fault or engineering status associated with them.

Previously, you had to look quite hard to see which transmitters had current faults, and which had faults listed for the last few days.

The new format for the page looks like this.

Only the sites with "live" faults are shown with the yellow symbol (those with Digital UK's "this week" status, a pink border).

I hope the above listed changes will help you to understand where the current faults and system outages are.

The new symbols carry though to other pages that shows transmitter symbols.

Our TV has been going off for several days, usually in the afternoons but Sunday evening it disappeared for quite some time. Everything goes off ans a message about the signal appears. We are with Sandy Heath. I know there were engineering works on the 18th September but it seems rather long winded.

Elizabeth Simpson:

Sandy Heath still has Planned Engineering this week. Lots of main transmitters in particular have had several periods, some extended, of Planned Engineering. It's a good 10 years since DSO and no doubt lots of maintenance and some equipment replacement is needed. Some work is not easily done in winter.

Forgot to mention above, if you were correctly tuned, do NOT retune when the signal disappears, it'll probably clear your correct tuning.

JONH PEN:

As detailed on the Stockland transmitter page, there is Planned Engineering - Possible effect on TV reception week commencing 09/10/2023 Pixelation or flickering on some or all channels.
As you haven't given a full postcode, we can't check your predicted reception. If you are in a weaker signal area that can make matters worse.

BUT in addition, current weather conditions have been causing Tropospheric Ducting affecting much of the south coast and southern parts of the country on Saturday and more of the south of the country through Sunday. This causes interfering signals from distant transmitters in Europe or the UK to affect reception of your wanted signals. This can periodically last, seconds, minutes and sometimes much longer - Do NOT Retune.
There is nothing you can do about this apart from wait for conditions to change, or use online streaming if available.

The BBC have issued warnings -
High pressure weather conditions impacting TV & Radio services - 6th October | Help receiving TV and radio.

PS. No need to shout (posting in Caps!).

We have a lot of channels that keep pixalating or loosing signal mostly in the evenings for some time now. And it is very annoying not being able to see programs.

Beverley Stevens:

As you haven't given a full postcode we have no idea where in the country you are and so which transmitter(s) you may be predicted/able to receive.
Many transmitters are currently listed for Planned Engineering with "Possible effect on TV reception week commencing 01/04/2024 Pixelation or flickering on some or all channels".
This probably the reason for your issue on the assumption you have done basic checks such as checking your aerial still looks intact and is pointing correctly, that the downlead isn't flapping in the wind, and that all your accessible coax connections are free of corrosion and water and connected correctly.

Do NOT retune as this can lead to your correct tuning being cleared, you cannot tune to signals that are not there or are badly pixelated.

Hi , I keep losing channels for days at a time or they are so pixelated. I've checked Ariel and connections to all. Seems worse in the evening. It's so annoying especially when you are watching a film with the family. We are in Southampton. Problem started about three weeks ago. I have many channels now that are unwatchable.

Poppy Johns: The Rowridge transmitter which covers most of Southampton has had ongoing engineering works for the last few weeks. Unfortunately there is no published date for the works to be completed.
