Channel One to close, Challenge to come to Freeview

Changes to Freeview after Sky buys VTV channels

Changes to Freeview after Sky buys VTV channels
published on UK Free TV

Sky is closing one pay and one free channel from the portfolio it bought from Virgin TV, because they match channels already provided by Sky.

Bravo and Channel One (which was Virgin 1 and before that FTN) will close.

This means that the Channel One slot on Freeview will be replaced with the quiz show channel Challenge.

Challenge is now in the Freeview guide on 46. If you can't see it yet, please follow these instructions on your set-top box or Freeview TV: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv.

Hi can you help my mother loves challenge tv she is 87 and can only receive if in the day time. Come 6.00pm a message comes up to say no more coverage until next morning. What is the reason for that. She lives in Pembrokeshire, West Wales

mavis: I gather you are receiving from Dover transmitter as it broadcasts Sky News on C59.

C59 is the highest channel used by Dover and is therefore picked up last when the TV carries out its scan. What is probably happening is that your TV is storing signals from other transmitters before it gets to Dover (which uses the higher channels) and that these other signals are filling the memory and leaving it without memory to remember C59.

Dover's lowest channel is 48 and the automatic tuning scan runs channels 21 to 69, so have the aerial lead unplugged for the first 50% so as to avoid finding some signals that are lower down (and occupying the memory).

If it gives UHF channels as it scans, plug in about C45.

JOHN DALY: Keep It Country are apparently off air while they change service providers (this is very unusual as such changes would normally take place behind the scenes with only a few seconds of interruption) and will apparently be back on air by 1st February, possibly earlier. See the article linked below for further info.
