Digital UK now says:

Digital UK has been informed by the transmission company [Arqiva] that engineering work in preparation for digital switchover at the Emley Moor transmitter is now expected to continue until the end of August. Viewers with marginal reception may experience difficulties receiving some channels. Timescales for the installation of the new main antenna system are subject to many factors, including the weather, but all efforts are being made to complete the work as quickly as possible. Digital UK apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Digital UK say today:

From Monday 14 April 2010 for around 2 months, transmissions from Emley Moor will be from a reserve antenna which may affect reception for some viewers. This is in preparation for digital switchover work and signals are liable to reduced power and short interruptions, for which we apologise.

Whilst noting that 14 April 2010 is a WEDNESDAY, this means there will be, as there has been on the Oxford transmitter, some problems for Freeview viewers.

This will effect people using loft and indoor aerials, and those on the edge of the reception area.

There is very little that can be done - DO NOT replace your aerial.

Hi jb38, thank you for your reply.
Our tv in other room is coupled directly to the loft aerial (which is brand new and was installed ready for switchover). Where as the front room tv just works from the booster.
Since the 1st phase of switchover on wednesday (I did a full factory re-set)both tv's have been working very well, with none of the above mentioned problems, until last night. We are getting 'poor signal' signs on some of the channels and were unable to watch a film on BT Vision as it kept losing signal and you could see ITV analogue on the screen at the same time. It was windier than usual (it is a very open aspect and is always windy)and we seemed to lose the signal when the gusts got stronger. Do you think it is down to the weather or is it as you say that it could be too strong a signal? Could we see an improvement after the final phase of the switchover, so should we wait and see? And what do we need to do if the signal is too strong? I have read other questions and something called an attenuator is mentioned, is this what we need and what is it? Sorry for all the questions but really hope you can help. Thanks.

Joanne Pollard: The "usual reason" for being able to see an analogue channel overlaid whilst watching from a Freeview box is that you have created a "SCART loop".

A "SCART loop" is where you have two or three SCART cables connecting in a circle. For example you could have both the VCR SCART from the BT Vision box connected to the TV as well as the TV SCART output.

More common is that the VCR out of the BT Vision box is connected to another device that is ALSO connected to the TV set via a SCART. This isn't necessary and will cause the feedback problem.
