The symbol shows the location of the Tacolneston (Norfolk, England) transmitter which serves 330,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Richard Baguley: I think you've just answered your own question - its not a transmitter fault.
Check your Sony with your neighbour (is that the only digital reciever you have in the house?) - if its duff, then its the Sony, but I doubt it. Once again, it sounds like the aerial.
Remember that the last three pages of comments about this transmitter are over the past seven months, and include engineering work, a high pressure system and several bouts of stormy weather, so its not unusual to get a fair number of technical problems from about 0.8m homes. If you add to that the often problemmatic nature of Freeview reception in much of the area covered, its pretty much certain.
However, since its sounds like your signal strength has been going for a while, there are no problems with the transmitter, and your nieghbour is fine, what else could it be?
At least you havn't used the phrase 'I pay my licence fee'.... :-).

I agree, Mike.
Since speaking to the rigger I took a look at the aerial.
Believe it, or not, I hadn't noticed the mast head amplifier box on the mast before! This appears not to have a cover i.e. the innards can be seen, we think.
Anyway, no signal at all on TV now - though FM is perfect.

I see that from April 2014 there will be another 3 MUXES on C31, C37 & C57
Will C37 be QAM256 or QAM64?
Recently the QAM256 MUX had 2 channels added obviously reducing the bit rates from an avg of 10Mb/s to 8Mb/s per channel.sigh
It was bad enough with QAM16 MUXES (18Mb/s) and like 10 channels before the DSO
Instead of padding out the MUXES with dam+1 channels why do they not up the data rates?
Why do they not use QAM256 on every MUX?
Surely mpeg TS can be transmitted on QAM256?
This whole DSO has been a farce IMO.
A friend of mine had to upgrade his aerial, upgrade his set top box & TV and now has to invest in one of those things to cut interference.
Typical corporate incompetence to fleece people for money, as long as the 4G operators get there chunk of the band with who cares, let the public pay out over an over.
Oh and it will not be long till 4K comes, another fortune to shell out!

Bob:
The 'DSO', by which it is taken you mean the Digital Switch Over' was the change between analogue and digital transmission of terrestrial TV. That happened mainly between 2008 and 2011.
Recent changes to the digital transmission characteristics has nothing to do with any 'switch over' from analogue to digital. Most recent changes have been aimed at making better usage of available spectrum to allow further services, such as more HD MUXs and more mobile/data communications.

bob: I'm really sorry, but the bit of code that displays the com7 and com8 transmission mode had not been uploaded to the server.
You should see all the correct details now.

Reply to Mike - Thanks Mike, I think I was not clear, I was talking about the QAM16 MUXES which were upgraded to QAM64 in Oct 2012? (might be wrong on the date, but it was when the analogue signals were switched off and the Tacolnestoon mast started broadcasting digitally only
(before this date Digital was available via Tacolneston but they were using QAM16 on 5 of the 6 MUXES.(IIRC)
Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your reply!
Thanks for the update Brian :) 1 more QAM256 MUX for HD , cool :)

bob: Not sure why you are complaining about DSO being a farce - most people only had to retune their digital equipment (or buy a digital box if they didn't have any). If you needed to upgrade your aerial then either you had a poor installation to begin with or the commercial channels moved out of band - which didn't happen at Tacolneston.
And if you are paying out to get 4G interference fixed then you're doing it wrong - at800 will do it for free if you're genuinely affected.

Bob: To follow up Michael's and MikeP's excellent points, the number of people on this site who have actually had 4G interference (as opposed to the number of people complaining about it) is tiny.
And if you do need a filter, as Michael points out, at800 will give you one for free.
And you might be waiting a while for 4K...
