My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Hi Briantist,
There's a 3 storey building to one side (we're a 2 storey detached) and a few tall lime trees next to that, grouped together. I had wondered about the 3 storey building as it is closed, but I wasn't sure that would explain the intermittent natre of the problem, or the large and definite discrepancy i.e. it's 30% or 90%ish strength

Re previous, should be the building is 'close', not closed.

Hi, I've tried all the fixes mentioned above, including clearing all channels and re-scanning, but my problem is, the EPG will not populate fully. It will show the next two days or so on all channels, but for the full seven days it either gets the BBC multiplex or the ITV one, but not both. Signal strength is a fairly consistent 76%, quality 100%, I'm near Winter Hill and scanning on 62, I can get a similar signal strength on other nearby scans, but the problem still persists. This only started recently, and I now have some Wales channels I didn't have before, so I assume the this is connected? I have an outside aerial mounted at garage height (I have no real access to anything higher), and an in-line aerial booster, and this has worked perfectly until a couple of weeks or so ago. Help please... Do I need a bigger, better aerial, and if so what type, I am confused by all the differences? Thank you :-) .

Thanks for the reply and link. That tells me why it happened, but not how to counter it? I don't mind the extra channels, and if I retune to one transmitter as described, as I understand it the automatic retune will only take me back to where I started anyway. All I really want is to have the full seven day EPG on all multiplexes - that's the source of my problem. Would some sort of specific aerial do it?

odgie: I'm not sure if an aerial would help, but I can't say for sure without a full postcode.

Sorry about that, I'm at PR25 1BU. I have very limited knowledge, only what I've gleaned from reading posts on here, and I just wondered whether there was an aerial that would only pick up Winter Hill and avoid what appears to be the conflict with the Welsh transmitter - I'm assuming this is what's causing the EPG to not populate fuly?

odgie: As there is 118 degrees between the transmitters, it should be possible to align your aerial so it only picks up the Winter Hill transmitter.
No special aerial is required, or indeed available to do this, just the way it is aligned.
