RobDigitalSpy. Thanks for your comments on my post and for the information you give. I'm hoping that as my NR3 location is on high ground, plus the increase in power at the Tacolneston transmitter to 100kw, that I'll be alright on my present aerial for a while. Just have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.

Tony Foster,
I am in the NR3 area
Luckily the installer who installed my Aerial some years ago had the fore thinking to suggest a Wideband, So hopefully i should have no problem with the SDN Mux on C42.
I will report back later after DSO2 is complete :)

Cannot wait for the HD mux to start too on C62

For what it is worth i would like to thank the unknown people working on the DSO at Tacolneston. Good job Guys :) and fingers crossed for a smooth transition later

Tim C.Try bang on midnight up to 1am in the early hours of Wednesday morning 23 November 2011 roughly over 6 hours from now,but you have to be quick, blink and you miss it.BBC2 analogue already dissappeared around 12:25am (0025) on Wednesday 9 November 2011,so between BBC1,ITV1,Channel 4 and Channel 5 either one of those will go 1st,2nd,3rd,4th in no particular order though.Look through tonights programme schedules in relation to the four analogue stations currently left at Tacolneston mast my predictions that the first to go may be BBC1 around 12:01am (0001) as the film "Away from Her" is between 11:45pm (2345) & 1:30am (0130),second to go may be Channel 5 around 12:04am (0004) programme on by then is "CSI:Crime Scene Investigation" between 11:55pm (2355) & 12:50am (0050),third and penultimate to go may be Channel 4 around 12:12am (0012) programme on by then is "Oscar Pistorius 'Blade Runner' " between 12:10am (0010) & 12:15am (0015),fourth and ultimate to go may be ITV1 if extremely lucky the film on at that time "Gremlins" between 10:35pm (2235) & 12:35am (0035) will just about be broadcast in its entirity (not guaranteed however) and upon completion predicted to go around 12:37am (0037).I most likely will be incorrect being unpredictable anything can happen. Not forgetting the remaining (Mux1 went on Wed 9 Nov 2011,minutes after BBC2 analogue went) low powered pre-digital signals will all go after the last analogue signals go altogether minutes earlier. The five remaining new high powered digital signals will all be switched on (BBCA mux already switched on Wed 9 Nov 2011) by 1:30am (0130) at the very latest !

Thanks Mark, sounds like I am not the only anorak around here ;-) I will test your predictions out they sound very logical.

Tim C: The BBC cares about when they shut down. The commercial channels don't. I'd bet on 01:30 for BBC One to shut down; the commercial channels will probably already be off - though they might still go off at, or shortly after, a programme junction, as they did for Crystal Palace's power tests.

Usually it takes a while for things to be reconfigured for the new transmissions, but at Tacolneston, the new services will be on the new mast, so everything will already be set up.

I'm another Anorak I'm afraid. It brings memories of the 405 system going off although that happened all at once. I've been having a last look at Ceefax (apart form the odd occassions when I may still see it eslsewhere). When the first part of the changeover happened two weeks ago I drove past the Thetford mast near where I live and was suprised to see no engineers vehicles there. I later realised that as Thetford probably follows Tacolneston in some way, this made sense as the same channels are being used new and old systems and presumably the same equipment is being used. Can anyone please tell me if the same equipment is being used at the repeater transmitters. I realise that the power is supposed to be lower for the digital system so I presume this requires a real person on site to do this at some point. I used to work for BBC Radio but have always had an interest in TV engineering as well.

I will be brief as by the time my text is published the end for analogue broadcasts from the old Tacolneston mast will be near.To those eager to see analogue finally switched off channel by channel (only four left) anytime soon get yer remote controls ready and continually flip the analogue stations of BBC1,ITV1,C4,C5.The tell tale sign prior to analogue suddenly being turned off is a sudden weakening of the analogue signal, lasting between a few seconds to over 1 minute, then like a sudden flash of lightning its analogue signal is gone !

Well it looks as though BBC one has just gone over as the film was starting. I wasnt expecting it to go before 1200.
