Collegue at work has the 37 inch version of my Sony kdl 40ex403 and he had the hd channels appear all be it temporally on his set.. Bringing pictures in to prove the fact we are both in ip256xs and I know we officially don't get hd till the 23rd has tacolneston been doing tests?? The reason I ask is I bought this set a year ago and don't want to find there's a fault after waiting all this time for hd to go live in this area.. I have a newly installed digital aerial mounted outside.. Cheers

Jon,Norwich.West Runton most unlikely to affect your signal quality as such,Overstrand probably also unlikely to affect your signals too.The most likely effect is what i mentioned previously that being the "Inversion Effect" happening over the last few days or so mainly over eastern UK,and until low pressure weather systems sweep in soon you will have to put up with it until the weather becomes unsettled.

Keith: As far as I can see there shouldn't be any problems with that model of TV, and although the temporary appearance of HD could of course be due to tests being carried out, it could however also be because the TV has picked up a weak HD signal from elsewhere that is hovering just under the reception threshold of the set, the "elsewhere" referred to being either Sudbury / Rouncefall / Belmont or Sandy, as these are indicated as possibilities under the category of being "variable".
A simple way to check this possibility being, if the EPG has anything stored in the 50 / 54 range click on it and carry out a signal check, as even although the screen may be blank, should any weak signal be in existence just under the reception threshold then the multiplex channel number associated with it will be shown, anything other than Mux Ch62 not being Tacolneston.

East Grinstead
I live in Felbridge near East Grinstead and for the last 6 days I and my neighbours have had poor reception of BBC1,2 ITV 1,2 Ch 4 and Ch5. We are all on freeview. When I say poor reception the picture breaks up and then disappears and will then return momentarily and then disaapear again. I canot seem to find anyone to talk to to find a solution to the issue.

Jon: If you follow the link to "Digital UK tradeview" by your name it will take you to the Digital UK predictor.
West Runton is predicted as being quite good where you are. Note that it is only since 9th November that it has been broadcasting digital (BBC only) which might explain why you've never had this issue with BBC channels. On 23rd the rest of its analogue will be switched off and replaced by ITV/C4/C5/HD on digital.
If the problem you are having affects only BBC channels, then perhaps it could be because it's tuned to West Runton which is at 2kW.
If you believe this to be the case, the simplest and most generic solution I can advise is to start the autotune scan with the aerial unplugged and plug it in when it gets to 25%. This should have it disconnected when it scans West Runton's frequency.

Thanks Dave,
Other channels have been poor at times but I do think the West Runton change has affected things.
I'm off out soon so I'll try a retune(s - I also use mythtv) skipping the West Runton frequencies tomorrow.
