Just spent 3 weeks staying 6 miles away from Mallaig and could only get 8 freeview channels via our digital caravan aerial... other people on site were having the same problem. Could anyone explain why this is? Thanks.

mel b: The transmitter only provides two SD multiplexes and is very low power at 4W, six miles away it is a considerable achievement to get any signal at all.

Brighton
I live high up in the Westdene area of North Brighton with direct line of sight to Whitehawk Hill tranmitter. I have an amplified aerial in my roof.
There is still problematic reception of all non BBC digital channels.
Can I be sure that the switchover to digtal
will enable my problems to be solved bu greater power output from the mew system?

D Curtis: One of the issues that you have is that the Channel 4 analogue signal from the Patcham relay is on Ch50, which is the same (frequency) as Mux 2 (ITV1/C4/C5 etc) from Whitehawk. Hence the signal from Whitehawk on this mux is much lower in your direction, so as to reduce the chances of interference with viewers of Patcham's Channel 4.
Have you tried turning off (and removing) your amplifier or reducing the amount of amplification? This might help produce a better result.
Try manually tuning in the missing multiplexes if you haven't already done so.
