Mark A.: In most cases the digital power on the PSB muxes is one fifth of the analogue power. In practice this usually gives coverage on the digital service which is at least as good as the former analogue transmission. At your location the Digital UK postcode checker shows you are predicted to receive a full Freeview service direct from Heathfield.

Mark A.: To be honest, I'm quite pleased that my well-researched dates turned out to be only a few weeks out four or five years ahead of the time, and this mainly because the switchover period has been reduced from four to two weeks...

@KMJ,Derby
Most people can get Heathfield from Haywards Heath, but as I live in a forest I can't.
I can get Haywards Heath without an aerial as I live so close to the transmitter.
My next strongest signal is from Crystal Palace but too week for a proper signal.
I have been tempted to mount an aerial on one of the trees as they are twice as high as the house,
but with leaves on the trees, wind and squirrels, I doubt that would work or last.
As I also have satellite I can get all channels now.
The signal strength from Heathfield is stronger than Haywards Heath,
but by the time it reaches Haywards Heath the Haywards Heath signal is much stronger in most parts of the town.

Mark A: "Transmitter Engineering" just reposts what the BBC put on their 'Solve your interference problems' troubleshooter, and what Digital UK post at
Digital UK - Planned Engineering Works . The BBC put "DSO Related" on their page if they were previously advised of the 'fault', that it would be due to planned engineering works for digital switchover.

Mike Dimmick:
Analogue service shutdown could be for 1 week,
but as normal digital service is 'no service until 2012'
I think they have looked up the wrong year.
I won't complain if Freeview starts this week. (Tung in cheek)

Mark A.: Normally the "air works" on a transmitter happen the summer before the actual DSO. Such works occur on "analogue only" transmitters and are tagged as "DSO related" by Digital UK and the BBC.

Haywards Heath
One has carried out the recommended procedures but the service is now only a fraction of what it was and the quality is extremely poor.
Of course one wants to know why.
The screen prompt was to retune; why, when ruddy awful service is the net result?
