I don't understand what's happening with the Brading (Isle of Wight) transmitter? Do you know if this is just temporary engineering work, or has it been shut down permanently please? That's not meant to happen until March!

Apologies. I have just worked this out for myself. Every transmitter (no matter how puny) within 100 miles of Calais High Street has its radiation pattern withheld.
Also every transmitter over a few watts up and down the country has the same issue (Woolwich 125 watts).
I am sure the French secret police are buzzing the Brading TV tower with camera equipped drones as we speak

brian: Freedom of Information requests have limits on their costs.
Therefore, with that in mind, if someone requested the radiation patterns for "all" 1,000+ transmitters, then there would, presumably, have to be some idea of expected cost. Perhaps it was calculated that the cost of considering release of the radiation pattern of each transmitter individually would exceed the cost limit. Therefore, maybe they were done in geographical blocks or grouped in some other way.
Hence considering whether radiation patterns for BBC South transmitters, for example, should be released, the answer came back as "no they shouldn't" because it was considered that at least one should be withheld.

disclosure of the antenna radiation patterns into the public domain could lead to these being available to foreign administrations, which would substantially weaken HM Government's negotiating position with respect to international frequency clearance;
a weaker negotiating position for HM Government may lead to additional cost for the broadcasters (where antenna systems have to be re-built as a result of international coordination) and lower coverage for viewers (where antenna systems have to be restricted in order to protect foreign transmissions); and
the BBC is required to provide coverage of its services on digital terrestrial television to a certain proportion of the population by the completion of switchover and a failure or suboptimal result from international co-ordination may harm the BBC's ability to meet this obligation.
Costs were not an issue. The BBC had the full data and redacted it when sending it to me.

Dave/Brian thank you to you both.
Brian : I printed off the reply from the BBC and read it on the train home last night. I realise now I have seen similar on the tx-list (mb21) chat site. Heres hoping you can get a conclusion to this soon.
I must say the UK Free TV website is a really good source of information. The maps in particular are of great interest.
Could I ask is it a voluntary site with people just helping out folks with reception problems out of the goodness of their heart? Clearly a lot of work goes into it and it seems to be on going (with the recent adding of yellow interference zones on the maps).
Sorry if I have been asking a few questions lately, it was quiet at work over xmas! I only have 2 questions left in my locker and Ill space out the timing of asking them !
