The symbol shows the location of the Bilsdale (North Yorkshire, England) transmitter which serves 570,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Bilsdale (North Yorkshire, England) mast?

I'm having problems receiving a signal on freeview channel 711 - 718 incl. These are radio stations. Tgey show up in the channel id but nothing is received.

Switchng the TV into signal mode it shows 100% on most other channels upto ch 710 and 719 onwards. 711 to 718 signal strength drops to 0%. Sometimes a signal is received but more often not. The signal mode shows no signal on transmitter chs 40 43 and 46.

In tuned jnto the north east I'm in norton in the ts20 postcode. Signal received via ext aeriel on roof.

According to all the notes these stations should be available.

Phil Charlton: Freeview lists services here, along with which multiplex they are on:

Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview

For Bilsdale:

PSB1 - BBC A - C27
PSB2 - D3&4 - C24
PSB3 - BBC B - C21
COM4 - SDN - C43
COM5 - Arq A - C46
COM6 - Arq B - C40

Is this a new problem? How long has it been happening?

Is this your own aerial or is it a shared aerial system, such as in a block of flats?

Steve Donaldson: hi Steve.

Firstly the aerial is solitary use for us only. How long...well up until when bilsdale mast caught fire and the whole thing went to hell it was OK. I can't swear about these specific omissions from back then. Our principal viewing is via cable, but the TV has a freeview receiver built in and occasionally flip it on rather than use the cable box and the TV. Freeview included GHR on 716 several weeks ago and was initially happy to see this as I don't have a dab downstairs, this was when I became fully aware of it, say 3 months ago, but im sure its been going on longer but... the various stages of bilsdales ressurection did mean changes and initially very few channels, gradually increasing from the initial 5 or 6 to 70+ so it was difficult to gauge. It's now clear that something isnt right and I'm trying to get comment / advice from someone in the know. I looked at the transmitter details on the page at the channels which you have again stated. All are fine apart from as I said COM 4,5&6 ch 40, 43 and 46.

Phil Charlton:

As listed in the post at the top of this page (208), Bilsdale is still subject to Planned Engineering.
Work was continuing to finish the installation of the DAB antenna, and the FM and Local TV antenna were only installed a few weeks ago but not in service at that time.

Whilst Planned Engineering is continuing, that is the most likely explanation for No signal for the COM muxes when you checked.
I'm fairly sure that the FM services are now operational on the new mast, but DAB transmissions are still on the temporary Bilsdale Tower.
The Local multiplex is on UHF C30 but it's still being transmitted from the Eston Nab site.

Stephen Thomason:

The Pop channels are carried on the Local multiplex as mentioned by Steve Donaldson. But as noted in the post above, the mux has been transmitted from the Eston Nab site since the Bilsdale fire.
It's only a few weeks ago that installation of the antenna for the Local multiplex was completed on the new mast, and was not operational a couple of weeks ago, so you may not yet be able to receive it, it's on UHF C30 - you could try a manual tune in case you may pick up the signal from Eston NAb.

Arqiva had hoped to have all the services complete and up and running by the end of October, (not sure if that included mobile services which have been on a separate temporary mast) but recent weather conditions have no doubt hampered that. DAB services were still on the Bilsdale Tower.
So I'd expect the Local multiplex (and DAB services) to become operational in the near future, you may then be able to receive it if you are in the Middlesbrough direction.

Stephen Thomason:

It'll remain on UHF channel C30 (546MHz). If UHF channel numbers on this site are posted with a C immediately in front of the number, you can hover over it to get the centre frequency in MHz.
At present I can find no definitive statement from any authority that says it's now operational from the Bilsdale mast itself, having to rely on reports from a few techies in the know nearby. I'm hoping for a more precise update later this week!
Did you ever receive it in the past? If so, just keep Manual tuning C30 from time to time.
If you don't know, if you provide a full ,postcode (or click on the cog-icon at the top RHS of this page and enter it there) we can check if you are predicted to be likely to get it.

Garry :

You need a Group K aerial, probably med-high gain. You certainly don't want a Wideband or Group T - if you have one of those you may need a Free Filter from https://restoretv.uk
You should have had a postcard from them.

Even with a Group K, if interference from a new/upgraded phone mast is strong enough you may still need a Filter from them, especially if you have any aerial amp/splitter to feed more than one TV..
Such a filter should go before the amp.
The aerial should point at the Bilsdale mast, compass bearing 33 degrees - about halfway between NNEand NE with its rods )or squashed Xs) horizontal.
