dave sanders: The channels you are missing would be purely commercial enterprises and not connected in any way to the licence fee, and with these commercial interests not being willing to contribute towards the running costs involved of any additional multiplexes, basically as they do not consider that the returns expected from the smaller area's covered by the transmitter would be sufficient enough to justify the running costs involved.

This is just really the same type of thing as a larger department store chain not being willing to open a branch in a smaller town, i.e: simply because the financial returns expected would not make it a viable proposition.

I have not been able to receive BBC channels since last Friday 4th March. I am not the only one.
What is causing the interference and how can the problem be resolved.
My postcode is DE56 1TY.

All:

There is a major retune event on the 4th March. The transmitter will likely go off-air overnight and the multiplexes PSBs1&2 move to new UHF channels. The transmitter may be off-air for several hours and may not be back on air until late morning or early afternoon.
The new channels are as follows, in the order PSBs1-3; C33, C48, C36;
People will need to retune and a Group K aerial may be needed for satisfactory reception of all multiplexes.

Anyone having problems receiving the PSB multiplexes may need a new aerial. Providing they don't have Cable or Satellite, they can get help for a free replacement aerial from Freeview by ringing 0808-100-0288 (a free call, but there might be long wait times on the phone!).

Anthony Lakin:

"We" have not done anything, as this is an independent help website. Nor will Freeview have done anything, nor Arqiva who maintain the transmitters.
Having said that there is no currently listed Planned Engineering for the Belper transmitter nor can I find any reported power or transmitter outages that might affect it.

IF it is the Belper transmitter that you normally receive your aerial is likely to be pointing roughly NNNW with its rods (or squashed Xs) vertical. I can't be any more precise as you haven't given a full postcode, although parts of Duffield will receive a good signal from Belper, Duffield is not shown as being technically in the official coverage area.

As there are no currently reported problems, If you are correctly tuned, check that your aerial seems intact and pointing in the correct direction with the rods (or squashed Xs) vertical and that your downlead looks undamaged and isn't flapping in the wind.

The correct UHF channels for Belper are C33, C48, C36 in the multiplex (groups of TV channels) order BBCA/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBCB HD/PSB3.
See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which TV channels/stations are carried on which multiplex.

If you happened to retune when you had no or bad signal you may have inadvertently got tuned to another transmitter with weaker or variable signals, so check in your TV tuning section that you are tuned to the correct ones. Are your neighbours having the same problems?

How old is your aerial installation? If you've had the same one for over 6 years it's possible that it's an old Aerial Group C/D as the UHF channels now used by Belper since the 700MHz Clearance program are now Group K (Wideband will do) and the old aerial will not receive the new UHF channels as well. You would have been eligible for a free aerial upgrade at the time (early 2020) if your reception had been affected then.

Also check all you coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads can be a common problem, try swapping them.
See what signal strengths (if any) and quality you are getting for the multiplexes (groups of channels) shown in your TV's tuning section, this might indicate potential issues with your aerial or downlead.
If you post the figures for each it may give us a clue.

Do you have a distribution amp/splitter and where is it located? If you have one, check that it still has power and check the connections to it.

If you've altered anything around in your installation, check that you don't have any HDMI leads close to any aerial or flyleads, especially if the aerial and flyleads aren't high quality double screened types. HDMI is known to sometimes cause interference.
