Princes Risborough
I have a widegain aerial in my loft and get only poor reception. I live at HP27 9HH and am 10 miles from the High Wycombe transmitter and 15 miles from the Oxford one. What to do?

martin: I believe those transmitters are low power relays.You might try pointing your aerial towards Sandy Heath North West of you. Otherwise the London transmitter. Sandy is 56km away but it is a main transmitter in the region of a Megawatt I think. The problem around Princes Risborough is all them Chiltern Hills. Hope it helps,I spent many years around that area trying to get decent pictures in the analogue era.

martin: The Digital UK postcode checker predicts that you should have good reception on all muxes from Oxford aerial pointing W-WNW set for horizontal polarisation, or as John suggested above try Sandy Heath, aerial pointing NE, also horizontal polarisation. Note that the COM muxes from Oxford are transmitted at reduced power until 18th April 2012, SDN from Sandy Heath will change frequency and increase power on 9th May 2012.

I just got a digital tv with built in freeview. It worked fine at my friends place, but here it does not get any channels. Tells me to check aerial. I dont get it. It was working 8 miles away, but not here. What to do. There is an antenna on the roof of the building and a satelite dish. Se185ql thanks in advance

ivan: I can see one possible reason for the problem, that of an excessively high powered signal blocking the tuner as you are only 7 miles away from the transmitter and as you say using a roof mounted aerial.
If you have a set top aerial to hand try a re-tune with that plugged into your TV, or even just try a short piece of copper wire (about 12") pushed into the inner cup of the aerial socket.

When digital comes to my area in October (BT473SL) will I then get Freeview? Would I have to change my existing outdoor aerial? My TV has built in Freeveiew tuner.

Fleming Campbell: The Digital UK postcode checker predicts that you will only be able to receive transmissions from the Londonderry relay. This should give excellent reception on your existing aerial, but only on the PSB muxes as this transmitter is a Freeview light service which, due to economic constraints, is not planned to carry the COM muxes. The reception prediction does not take into account any Saorview services which might be available from the Republic, or the additional Northern Ireland Mini Multiplex.

Fdor some time now i have problems with my picture breaking up and a message telling me to check my arial i have done this time and time again the problem i feel is with beacon hill transmitter despite assurances by your engineers it is operating correctly,i was informed by a BBC engineer when i phoned in with this problem that power had been reduced as the signal was affecting t5he French TV any truth in this ? i would be grateful if you could sort this problem out for me thank you Richard hampson i live in tq5 0rb

I currently receive freeview from the bath transmitter and therefore only get the 'cut down' service. Are you aware of any plans to update this transmitter at any time in the future ?
