What can I do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fau
How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.
Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan
- Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.
- Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.
- Check cables and connectors are in good order.
- Wait for at least 30 seconds.
- With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
- Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
- Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
- Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
- Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.
Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB
If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.- Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]
On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]
Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu". - Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
- Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
- Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
- Press [SKY].
- Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
- Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
- Press [SKY].
Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software
If there are still problems:- Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
- Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
- Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message ââ¬â this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.
- Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
- Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
- Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
- Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
- Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Jonathan Fisher: Although as from last Monday (14th Sep) Sandy Heath does have a "possible interruptions to service" notice posted on the engineering page, I would suggest, that rather than calling an engineer, your best policy would be to try and find out if anyone else residing in your area is also experiencing similar problems with reception.
That said is on the assumption that you have "not" attempted to retune your Freeview devices on finding a no signal message? if you have, then this will have deleted everything stored in your tuner, a further retune being required to recover same.

gemma : Although you may well have followed the procedure shown at the top of this page, this advice is basically based on the reason for "no signal" being connected with some form of malfunction having occurred within the box itself, and not that the reason could possibly be due to the dish having been moved (accidentally or otherwise) slightly out of alignment.
That said, have you tried swapping the two leads from the dish over? as LNB1 is the main input, therefore if the lead going into LNB1's input is defective nothing will be received. By the way, swapping the leads over should be carried out whilst the box is switched off, this (switching off) only being necessary because the procedure previously carried out "might" have deleted them, and so its best to start afresh, as Sky boxes search for channels when they are powered up.
Apart from that, that there is no real way of finding out if the dish is slightly out of alignment except by trying another box on your dish, or alternatively testing your box out on someone else's dish, but though, if you can still access the menu OK, try carrying out a signal check using the following procedure.
1:- Press "Services" on your Sky remote control and you will see the main menu with "Options" highlighted.
2:- Highlight the Settings menu using the right arrow button and press select.
3:- Scroll along to "signal" using the left / right arrows then press select.
4:- The grey bars displayed will show the strength of the signal to your SkyHD box.
If strength / quality is being indicated then it "has" to be around 55% or more to produce a reasonably reliable picture, if its under, then this points to the dish being slightly out of alignment, this usually being in the horizontal (right/ left) plane. Further advice on this if requested.
If though nothing is indicated, then the dish has been moved (blown or knocked) well out of alignment, or that the actual box is defective, internal power supplies being the usual culprit!

bill simpson: You do know the dish has to be precisely aimed at the satellite in order to receive a signal?

Sparky: The signal bars on all satellite receivers (Sky / Freesat etc) are always live, and so what you have suggested should work perfectly OK, at least, provided that all adjustments are carried out in "slow motion", as you are dealing with adjustments of a magnitude barely visible to the human eye.
I will say though that success is usually achieved far quicker by using one of those "cheap" satellite finders of the audible tone variety, the device being positioned in-line with the LNB and the coax coming from same, a rising tone being emitted from the device if approaching a satellite whilst adjusting the dish, the tone usually being heard shortly before any movement is seen on the signal bars.
Although it has to be appreciated that simple devices of this sort can be misleading to the inexperienced, as the tone will also be triggered by satellites other than Sky's at 28.2 degrees, such as from the European one positioned at 19.2 degrees, though the Sky box will only "lock on" to the one required for the reception of Sky.
Needless to say, another way of quickly achieving success without the aforementioned, is simply by positioning a TV at an angle that enables its screen to viewed whilst you are making the adjustments to the dish.

Sparky: In addition to the advice offered by jb38, I would first tune to a channel with the lowest signal quality and adjust the dish so as to maximise hat quality.
Once the dish is optimally aligned, adjustment of LNB skew (rotation) and distance from the dish (focal point) may bring a further increase in quality.
In fact I would try adjustment of LNB skew first as that might be all that's needed.

Sparky: You should concentrate on the horizontal plane, as reception problems only experienced during windy weather are usually always related to horizontal (left / right) movement of the dish.
However, that said is based on the dish "not" being firmly mounted, i.e: screws holding same not tightened properly, if though they are? then unscrew the "F" connector from the LNB, further unscrewing said connector from the coax to enable it (plus coax) to be checked internally for any signs of water, as droplets of water can cause the problems referred to.
If all appears OK reassemble it, making sure that all individual strands of the braiding are pulled back over the outer cover of the coax, this being to avoid the possibility of them becoming wrapped around the inner core of the coax whilst screwing the "F" connector back on again.
By the way, these cheap satellite signal detectors can be obtained from numerous e-bay sources for around £5.00+ or so, the types with an analogue pointer meter and a dB adjuster being ideal for the purpose intended. But though as previously touched on, adjustments to the dish made in slow motion is the key to success.
