The problem could be one of:

- the aerial has been moved or damaged;

- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;

- the digibox has broken.

If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

Frederick: The transmitter is definitely not being switched off. Winter Hill is the main transmitter covering much of the North West of England, there would be thousands of complaints if it was. If the problem is happening at the same time every day it is most likely being caused by electrical interference from something operating on a timer (either in your own home or a near neighbour).

lets consider the options, you fail to receive a multiplex signal at 20:00 each day, could the issue be -

1. A multi-million pound transmitter system, with fully redundant automatic backup systems, and monitored 24h a day 7 days a week by highly qualified engineering staff capable of remotely restoring almost any fault, with 24h on-call field engineers and massive spares resources, diverse feeds of programme from the broadcasters, all with automatic backup systems right up to the studio, diverse reserve mains power supplies and automatic backup generators...

or,

2. Your couple of hundred quid telly, crap lowest cost aerial downlead, cheap aerial thats probably so old its corroded away and full of rainwater, and of fixings that are flimsy so the whole thing waggles in the wind, your cheap flyleads, all of which you installed yourself with no technical training or knowledge, and sitting in your house beside your out-of-date cheap boiler and thermostat, that comes on at 8pm and creates so much electrical noise it swamps your cheap tellys wide open receiver front end...

I jhave retuned my Humax Freeview box but there is no option to choose my local area (Yorks). The box defaults to NE. How can I retune to Yorkshire without losing any recordings already made?

Kevin Blackwell: Yorkshire is a huge area, please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitters cover your location, where you are in relation to them and your predicted coverage etc. If your box has a manual tuning function you may be able to use that to get your preferred BBC & ITV region.

Huntshaw Cross: I have lost all HD channels (BBCB mux) after the 19th June channel changes. I am using a high gain chimney mounted aerial, c 5 years old. All other channels are OK. Can nayone advise if power has been reduced, or any other possible cause for this loss ?

Paul Taylor: Digital UK still list PSB1/2/3 as 20kW and COM4/5/6 as 10kW at Huntshaw Cross, however all multiplexes are now broadcasting on lower frequencies (PSB3 is now on UHF channel 37 when it was previously on 55) so you may need a new aerial if your existing one isn't wideband. Check for any loose connections etc and try manual tuning first, but if that doesn't work, give the Freeview Advice Line a call (see link below) who can arrange for a replacement wideband aerial to be fitted (free of charge if you don't have satellite or cable).

I live in Leighton Buzzard and am tuned to the Sandy transmitter. Suddenly I am unable to receive channels 3,4,5, and 6. The time is 17:25 on Saturday 17th August 2019. This morning I could not receive these channels, Lunchtime I got all and now tonight I cant get any! All other channels are received OK with good picture quality.
I have spoken to others in the town who do not seem to have a problem

Can anyone offer an explanation as to what is going On?

Terry Culver:

Firstly, I can't find any report of problems at the Sandy Heath transmitter, however note that there is planned engineering work at the transmitter this week with "Possible Weak Signal". Don't attempt to retune whilst you are not receiving the channels otherwise you may lose the tuning of all channels on the D3&4 multiplex, see Digital UK | Channel listings

Second, if this is a reception/interference issue, the other channels on the D3&4 multiplex should also be affected.

According to the mapping, large parts of Leighton Buzzard are not well covered by the Sandy Heath transmitter. If I were you I would check all your coax connectors and cable, remove/reinsert connectors making sure they are clean etc., also consider whether you have you made any changes to your installation, check that your aerial is still intact and pointing in the correct direction after recent high winds.

If you are still having issues please post on the Sandy Heath transmitter page Sandy Heath (Central Bedfordshire, England) Full Freeview transmitter | free and easy and we would need a postcode to offer any further constructive advice about reception. You can check the predicted reception at your location by putting your postcode into Digital UK - Coverage checker
