To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

louis feather:

There's no indication at present as to what the cause of loss of signal was, there's no currently reported faults by the BBC for the Idle transmitter, but if BBC channels weren't affect (ie. only commercial channels) the chances of seeing any fault report are tiny.

With regard to the Humax problem, is it connected direct to the TV via an HDMI lead or is there an HDMI hub as well? Does your Humax have the latest firmware? Does it have a "power saving in standby" setting? If so, try setting that to OFF.

Hi there
I am going to my friend's at PH36 4HZ to install broadband and get Free
view working through a Sony TV.

The coverage maps here suggest transmitters in Northern Ireland!

I thi k this is extremely unlikely due to the mountainous nature of the area.

What are my chances of success? Am I better to get a Freesat box using an existing Sky dish?

Great site many thanks
Andrew

Andrew Turner : Putting that postcode into Freeview's detailed coverage checker suggests that the lite transmitter at Strontian is the only one likely to be available. If the property has an existing Sky dish you would probably be better off connecting it to a Freesat box which would give far more channels, as the Strontian relay only carries the PSB multiplexes.

Andrew Turner :

Depends on the TV, check it hasn't already got a built-in Satellite tuner. The Sky dish can't be a SkyQ LNB.

Andrew Turner :

Should have added, that Strontian relay is the only one that comes up on the BBC checker as well.
Btw, it's at bearing 17 degrees (nearly NNW) and is 5km away with a power of 6W!

Chris.SE: Hi Chris,
Since the message of channel changes and needing to reset the TV I have also lost all the ITV channels - what is going on? i had 138 channels in all but on retuning it is only showing 16 TV channels in all and losing all ITV programs it seems, ITV 3. 3+1 channel 4, 4+1 and channel 5 and 5+1 etc and numerous others no doubt. What is the reason for this as I have factory reset and done all I should do but it is still only giving me 16 channels which is ridiculous. All BBC channels, like you, seem O.K. so wonder why this is . Can someone help with more info. please?

Suzie Emmerson:

Hi Suzie. There's a couple of possibilities, recent weather conditions - "Temperature Inversion/Tropospheric Ducting" which accompanied the high pressure - should be clearing now, resulting in interference from distant transmitters in Europe or the UK. Or the possibility your transmitter has Planned Engineering, but do check that your aerial is still pointing in the correct direction and the coax isn't flapping in the wind!
Also check the coax connections behind the TV, check the plugs are clean and no corrosion.

If you provide a full postcode, we can check your predicted reception and tell you which way the aerial should be pointing and there may also be reports of faults or engineering.

Several people have had problems with channels going into the 800s with this retune, so you could try unplugging the aerial, carrying out a full automatic retune which should hopefully clear all existing tuning and then plugging the aerial back in and repeating the retune.

I've recently ditched Virgin Media and gone to Freeview. I've got a Manhattan PVR hooked up to a roof aerial. I was getting occasional blocky images and digital noise so a bit of research suggested the signal may be too strong. I was showing 97% strength and 100% quality. I hooked up a variable attenuator and diallled back to around 77% strength. This seems to have done the trick but I now cannot received anything on mux 55 (Forces TV, more 4+1, etc. could dialling download the strength to 77 on the others really be enough to knock that one out completely? Thanks

Michael Ellis: COM7 is often broadcast at a lower power level than the main PSB & COM4-6 multiplexes. If you provide a full postcode we can check the predicted signal strength at your location, but as a general thing to try, adjust your attenuator whilst tuned to COM7, then if you get to a setting where you have a picture that doesn't break up try switching to channels on the PSB and COM multiplexes and see if you can find a sweet spot where all of them work, you may not need to bring the signal on the others down as low as 77%, just taking a bit off may be enough.
