To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Tony: The most likely explanations is that you either have a fault or your suffering from interference. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitter you're using, where you are in relation to it and your predicted coverage etc.

I live in Seaford, East Sussex, and I understand I get freeview from both Newhaven & Whitehawk.
During the day I get all freeview channels satisfactorily, but come the evening a number i.e. Dave, 5USA, Quest, Blaze , to name but a few I lose their signal completely or they break up severly. This happens whatever the weather etc, yet I am told that there are no transmission problems at whitehawk. Why is this???

Gordon Booth: The most likely explanation is that you're suffering with electrical interference from something operating on a timer (such as a central heating or hot water system) either in your own home or a near neighbour.

Michael:

There have been some works on the transmitter and some of the channels have moved. You will need a wideband aerial now.

There is a further change planned for the 19th, go to the Digital UK Coverage Checker at http://www.digitaluk.co.u…ker, put in your post code and house nymer, select the detailed view and press Go. The scroll down the listed information and look atb the details for Mendip.

I have now lost all HD channels. I have done all the usual aerial out/manual retune/aerial in/manual retune, to the standard Waltham channels and the new Uttoxeter Road channels to no avail. I live within a few hundred yards of the Uttoxeter Road, Derby transmitter, which is clearly visible from my house,but my aerial still points to Waltham in virtually the precisely opposite direction, as do all the others in my street. PC World a mile from my home told me that there are problems in our area. Where do I go from here?

We are within 100m of the Tynewydd Transmitter yet often the signal quality is poor whilst the signal strength is excellent.
This happens on all channels but some are worse than others.

The pictures and speech break up so badly that you cannot watch a programme.

What causes this and what's the remedy?

Gwilym:

That close to the transmitter leads me to suspect that you have too much signal and that is causing your problems. Firstly, check the signal strengths shown on your TV. Ideally they should be between 60% and 85%, any more than this will cause the problems you report. If they are too strong you can reduce the strength using coaxial attenuators that are widely available on-line. When you fit an attenuator, fit it to the TV end of the aerial lead and then add a short flylead from the attenuator to the TV input socket.
