To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I have just performed a New Installation on A TV with built in Freeview as everything was OK till yesterday evening.

Most channel work including Quest which has been a problem in the past but for the past few days Channels 11 and 44 PickTV and PickTv+1 produce a blank screen yet appear as normal in the EPG

This is with the Crystal Palace Transmitter and using a external aerial supplied by our housing association

I have been having a similar issue as described above. it is getting increasingly difficult to receive some free view channels especially 15 & 18. this however is not consistent we have three receivers all on the same aerial all three behave differently. one will not tune into these channels at all one picks up the signal but is un-watchable and one (at the moment) appears OK?? but again this is getting worse every day. why is this. I have tried the reset procedures, repeatedly re-tune to no avail??

I have free view built in to my TV and because i live in Nottingham we have already had our digital switchover, once i tuned my freeview back in it was fine. Then today i put the TV and find i have BBC1, BBC2, BBBCthree, Film4, Both Music channels, DAVE, E4+1 and many more missing, theres basically nothing left to watch. Ive tried deleting all channels and doing my first time installation several times and nothings working. What can i do now?

Michelle: Check that your TV is not on the list of equipment that can't handle a split NIT at http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/splitnit . Most of these should have been picked up when the channels moved around about 18 months ago, though.

Otherwise, see Freeview reception has changed? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice . (RG47SH)

Hello

I have a Humax 9200T PVR with a twin tuner. Last winter I started getting water down the aerial cable. Since then the if I record from 1 multiplex I just get a blank screen on all the others! The RF loop out isn't working either.

I have dried the aerial cable out as much as possible, cut 18 inches off the length, gone back to PVR factory settings and done a complete manual retune. There is no problem with picture quality on digital or analogue so I'm not sure whether the problem is the PVR software or the aerial signal.

My postcode is BD3 7JQ so I'm on the Emley Moor transmitter. The aerial is roof mounted. What should the signal strength be -the retune was on channel 43 as this was showing the strongest signal of 30-32%

Julie: It honestly sounds like the second tuner and the RF modulator have died - possibly they were damaged by the water. The Humax uses the same tuning information for both tuners.

I recommend that you get an aerial installer to check the aerial and any junction boxes or other equipment outside are properly waterproofed. Sometimes installers orient the aerial so the connections are on top, which makes them easier to connect, but means that it's easier for water to get in and it's got nowhere to go except down the cable. If set up so the boxes are on the bottom, water generally doesn't get in and if it does, it generally drains out of the lid rather than down the cable.

On the Humax, 30-32% is about 53-54 dBuV, which is within the recommended range of 45-60 dBuV. 100% is an outrageous 95 dBuV and I can only think they calibrated this to the most it could handle in the test lab with only one signal generator running. In practice it has to be far lower so that the combination of all six multiplexes (seven, with the temporary HD mux) and five analogue channels doesn't overload the tuner.

I'd expect you to get higher signal strength on Mux 1 (C52), Mux 2 (C40), Mux B (C46), and Mux C (C50), because they transmit at double the power of Mux A. Mux D (C49) is a little lower. However, there can be differences in how the signal travels so there may be interference or lower levels on some multiplexes some of the time.

If you're tuning manually, you need to tune all six (standard definition) multiplexes to get all the channels.
