My ITV/C4 Freeview channels have disappeared - what can I do? Is it my SCART ca
It is a feature of television signals that they can be effected by the weather. Aside from the obvious damaged that can be caused by wind or torrential rain, the onset of summer can cause a more intriguing problem called "inversion".
Basically, when the sun heats up the land, the hot air can get trapped below cold air at high level. This creates an "inversion layer" which acts like a polished mirror to TV signals. This causes two problems: you can receive both the original and a reflected signal from your own transmitter (on analogue TV this appears as "ghosting") or interference from TV transmitters that are normally too far distant.
The ITV/C4 multiplex of channels (ITV-1, ITV-2, ITV-3, ITV-4, CITV, C4, More4, E4, Quizcall) use a transmission "mode" called 64QAM, and it is sadly much more prone to these problems.
So, whilst a loft-mounted aerial will provide reception at some time, it will fail at others. The only real solution is to mount the aerial (or a new Class I aerial) outside on a pole, but some people report that changing the cable from the aerial to the set-top box to the high-grade satellite cable can also help.
The SCART connection, by the way, only carries a single TV picture, not the Freeview transmission multiplexes, so if this is disconnected it will result in degradation to every channel at once.

J. Peers: You should try swapping the Humax boxes over and check if the problem transfers along with the box, the other point being that should you be referring to a T9200 then there is a possibility that the RF modulator fitted in these models could be sitting on the same channel as the ITV mux uses, this feature alterable under the "preferences" menu.

Swindon SN6 - Pointing toward the Oxford region news etc - We have lost all ITV and Chan 4 channels except for E4. Retune doesn't seem to help. This seemed to coincide with the switch of HD channels from 50's to 100's. Any ideas?

We were alerted to the fact that some re-tuning might have to be done when the Llanddona transmitter (on Anglesey) was adjusted. No problems continuing to get Sky progs but Freeview has lost some channels, inc Film 4 (F'view ch 15). This was a few weeks ago and I've only now come across the losses. My F'view remote doesn't have a Menu button and I can't find any way of retuning. Can anybody help? (I live in Bangor.)

Gareth Jones: Perhaps knowledge of your TV or Freeview box would allow its user manual to be found so as to give instructions on what you need to do.
The changes at Llanddona meant that PSB3 (ITV1, S4C, C4 etc) and COM6 (Film4 etc) would have been lost as they changed frequencies.
For a full list of Freeview channels, see:
DTG :: DTT Services by Multiplex
This page has six tables, each of which is a carried as a single signal known as a multiplex.

Hi. My postcode is RM10 8SA. I recently bought a second hand Samsung tv from a friend. He lived in chingford. Freeview worked perfectly there as I saw it many times myself. I have just up tv in my house. Autoscanned and could not find ch4, ch5, filmfour etc but did have all BBC channels. So I re autotuned and the opposite happened ! Got itv1, ch4 but now can't get the BBC channels ! Any idea as to what the problem could be

Danny Harris: You are indicated as being located at approx 13 miles from the Crystal Palace transmitter and so this type of problem would suggest as being a signal level related, which on one hand could be excessive dependant on aerial system used (if you use a booster try by-passing it) whereas on the other hand it could be inferior by the aerial supplying a signal level that is just on the verges of resolving a picture and no more, this being why you get different programmes on successive scans.
Can you receive ITV3(10) / Pick TV (11) / or Film 4 (15)?
You should also have carried out a "factory reset" before carrying out an auto tune, or if "first time installation" is an option use that and check the results.
