What connections are used from set top box to TV (such as SCART) ?
You can use the following ways to connect a set-top box to a TV:
1. SCART on STB to SCART on TV. This provides the best possible connection, with stereo sound and "RGB" highest quality connection;
2. SCART on STB to composite on TV. Older TVs without SCART connections usually have "composite" inputs, usually three "phono" sockets (often red, white and yellow). This offers stereo sound and good picture quality. You will need a special cable from a high-street retailer.
3. UHF ("aerial lead") box to TV. This requires that the STB you choose (all Sky, MOST Freeview) has a UHF output. You will need to "tune" the TV into the box, and you will get OK pictures and only mono sound.
If you are stuck with mono or poor quality sound on the TV, you can still use the SCART output (and the same cable as 2) to a separate amplifier to listen in stereo.

i have a sky+HD box and digibox pvr but i am unable to view the freeview recorder in any room except on the main TV. The house is wired so that i can view Sky on any of the 4 tv's in the house. I assumed that i would be able to connect via the aeriel cable like the sky by tuning each tv on the analogue channel but not so but it seemed to work with my old recorder box. Can anyone help??

Donald MacLeod: Very few Freeview boxes put their output on the aerial cable. You would need one with an RF modulator. Your older box may have had one, most new equipment doesn't.
It is possible to buy separate RF modulators that just plug into a SCART socket on the Freeview box.

Hi, Can I run a cable from my Virgin V box to set up another TV in another room ?, what type of connectors and cable are required.
Regards,
Stewart.

Stewart Filshill: I'm not sure if all the boxes have a built-in RF modulator. If they do, you can just connect up an aerial-type cable from the box's RF output to the second TV. You just need the plain push-in 'Belling-Lee' connectors. I would recommend satellite-grade cable anyway.
You then tune the analogue tuner on the TV into the UHF channel configured on the V Box. You can only watch the channel selected on the V Box, so you would need a remote control extender as well.
If the box doesn't have a modulator built-in, you can buy an RF modulator that plugs into the box's SCART socket.

John Foley: "RF in" and an aerial socket are exactly the same thing, and if its a TV you are referring to and not a monitor it must have an aerial socket.
Remember of course that the TV must be tuned on its analogue mode to pick up the modulator output on the Technomate.

I have a Samsung UE46D7000 TV connected to a Virgin HD TVdrive using HDMI cable on port HDMI4, the TV does not pick up any channels when auto tuning is run, I have tried the cable in all HDMI slots. On the menu screen the channel option is greyed out. Please can you advise how I can complete the setup

Anne Low: As this is a Freesat (dish) and Freeview (normal aerial) TV, have you tuned the TV in selecting either of the two modes mentioned? that is taking it that you have both a normal aerial as well as a dish installed, or at least one of them with the "auto tune" selected to scan whatever mode is applicable.
Leave the Virgin box out of the equation for the time being.

Anne Low: Thinking further about what you have said, if you have a satellite dish connected to the Virgin box then its the latter you want to carry out the scan on and not the TV, as the TV's tuning menu is not operable when the Virgin box is coupled up and switched on.

Anne Low: Scrub what I mentioned regarding satellite, I think that I must have suffered a brainstorm in saying that, however when you were looking at the menu greyed out on the screen are you positive it was the Virgin boxes menu and not the TV's?
