What connections are used from set top box to TV (such as SCART) ?
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV You can use the following ways to connect a set-top box to a TV:
1. SCART on STB to SCART on TV. This provides the best possible connection, with stereo sound and "RGB" highest quality connection;
2. SCART on STB to composite on TV. Older TVs without SCART connections usually have "composite" inputs, usually three "phono" sockets (often red, white and yellow). This offers stereo sound and good picture quality. You will need a special cable from a high-street retailer.
3. UHF ("aerial lead") box to TV. This requires that the STB you choose (all Sky, MOST Freeview) has a UHF output. You will need to "tune" the TV into the box, and you will get OK pictures and only mono sound.
If you are stuck with mono or poor quality sound on the TV, you can still use the SCART output (and the same cable as 2) to a separate amplifier to listen in stereo.

hi, i have a tv which the tuner is on the blink, is it ok to buy a stb and use just the hdmi cable from stb to tv to get a working picture, in other words i cannot use the rf out from the stb to tv, just scart or hdmi

Right, left get this clear from the start - I'm RUBBISH at this stuff....
Can anyone tell me how/if I can connect a Freesat box & a DVD with built in FreeView to my TV to receive both services.

OldFatBikerBloke: Connect the DVD to the SCART marked socket marked VCR on the Freesat box, and connect the VCR marked TV on the Freesat box to the TV.
To use the DVD, put the Freesat box into standby mode.

Hi, I hope someone can help me. What i want to do is connect my virgin vbox to my panasonic dvd recorder to record a virgin channel does anyone know how to set this up via scart leads thanks.

Mark Lightfoot: Connect a SCART cable from the V+ box marked "VCR" to the DVD recorder.
To access the DVD recorder, put the V+ box into standby mode.

Hi i have a humax + box but would like to take spaekers outside to listen to radio. can i first just connect to the humax without having the tv on, what type of speakers do i require

sparky: Anyone that wants to use speakers connected to PVR (or set top box) can only do it by using active powered speakers of the type that's used with PC's, these seen advertised everywhere at very reasonable prices.
The speakers in question would be coupled into the two (L&R) phono output sockets seen on the rear of the box.
Would advise though that you look around for types that offers some form of tone adjustment on them, as the tonal quality obtained from line output phono sockets can be very flat, this basically because the output is really intended to be used into a proper (but simple) home cinema system, which of course always has the facility of being able to control the bass & treble response.
