What connections are used from set top box to TV (such as SCART) ?
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV You can use the following ways to connect a set-top box to a TV:
1. SCART on STB to SCART on TV. This provides the best possible connection, with stereo sound and "RGB" highest quality connection;
2. SCART on STB to composite on TV. Older TVs without SCART connections usually have "composite" inputs, usually three "phono" sockets (often red, white and yellow). This offers stereo sound and good picture quality. You will need a special cable from a high-street retailer.
3. UHF ("aerial lead") box to TV. This requires that the STB you choose (all Sky, MOST Freeview) has a UHF output. You will need to "tune" the TV into the box, and you will get OK pictures and only mono sound.
If you are stuck with mono or poor quality sound on the TV, you can still use the SCART output (and the same cable as 2) to a separate amplifier to listen in stereo.

alex baird: The Freeview HD channels moved from EPG 50 to 101 onwards and so have you checked up there? if you have then please provide the model number of the TV as I noticed on your preceding posting that you refer to having a Digi box, which by the way I assume that your Philips DVD recorder was connected to and that you were recording from this? please confirm if this was the case because if it was then you would still require to use it to enable recording without the TV being switched on unless the DVD recorder has a Freeview tuner built in.

I have just purchased a sumsung UE46ES7000 Smart tv and also a samsung BD-E8500 blu-ray BD-Hdd combo.
how do I connect my sky satt box to the blu-ray recorder so that I can record from the sky channels. I can receive the sky channels ok on the tv but but I can only record from the tv arial channels there does not seem to be a way to connect the sky box directly to the blu-ray recorder.

Hi can anyone help I have bought a new freeview recorder as a present but the t.v it will be connected to dies not have a hdmi lead and only scart connection. The freeview does not have scart connection. Would I be able to connect the 2 using the different coulerd wires wich are on both??? X

Emily: No. Sadly scart and HDMI are not compatible without the aid of additional equipment. There is now a device available which converts signals from an HDMI source to a scart output, which costs around £40 from some on-line suppliers.

Emily: I should have pointed out that there is another device (that you do not want to get by mistake) that converts a scart source to an HDMI signal for connecting older equipment VCR/DVD etc, to a TV with only HDMI input. This is slightly more expensive.

Emily: Just purely out of interest, could you please indicate the model of TV you are referring to as well as the Freeview recorder.
The only reason for asking being, that if the TV does not have an HDMI connection then it cant be a model capable of displaying HD images, and so even "if" your Freeview recorder is HD capable then the TV will not display it even if using an adaptor lead, as the display will still be in SD.

Can anyone help please ... I need to connect my sky+ box and dvd player to my new tv....
the sky+ and dvd box only have scart sockets (no hdmi)output and the new tv has no scart socket only hdmi.
what do I need to connect these together... any help please.

I have just bought an LG TV with Freeview installed. I have Sky and a DVD recorder. Only one scat socket on the TV. Freeview and Sky are working fine but although I can play DVDs I can't record from it. The recording looks as if it is not tuned in.
