What connections are used from set top box to TV (such as SCART) ?
You can use the following ways to connect a set-top box to a TV:
1. SCART on STB to SCART on TV. This provides the best possible connection, with stereo sound and "RGB" highest quality connection;
2. SCART on STB to composite on TV. Older TVs without SCART connections usually have "composite" inputs, usually three "phono" sockets (often red, white and yellow). This offers stereo sound and good picture quality. You will need a special cable from a high-street retailer.
3. UHF ("aerial lead") box to TV. This requires that the STB you choose (all Sky, MOST Freeview) has a UHF output. You will need to "tune" the TV into the box, and you will get OK pictures and only mono sound.
If you are stuck with mono or poor quality sound on the TV, you can still use the SCART output (and the same cable as 2) to a separate amplifier to listen in stereo.
Rach- Simply use two HDMI leads to connect the Freeview box and the s/s system to the TV.

help me.
can someone suggest me a satellite receiver where i can see most of the hindi ( asian channels for free)
i have got communal satellite dish and adsl internet. i dont have virgin fibreoptic. i recently bought starview7 reciver and it didnt worked and reason i didnt had fibreoptic.
now i know that there is one small black box ( size of a router ) in which we need to put our sky satellite dish cable in it and lan wire for internet and we can see all hindi channels. but i dont know the name of that box. its already in market but i dont know the name.
they say you dont need any subscription with sky nor you need any fireoptic cable.
you only need that box, a sky satellite dish and internet .
i tried to ggogle it but didnt get it, if someone got a name of that box?
i think it would be some kind of STB and we can see this list of channels (http://www.wildsat.com/ )

Hi,
Is it possible to record from the Virgin box onto as laptop, and if so how what cable do I need to connect them together.
thanks

Stuart: It is not a straightforward thing to do, as you will need a USB adaptor with a "composite input". I'm not even sure if you can still get such a device, and the quality will be quite poor.

Please can you tell me how to connect the following?
1)freeview tv set with 2 scart sockets,
2)a vcr/dvd player combi with 2 scart sockets
3)a virgin box with 2 scart sockets (not V+)
4)a humax freeview twin tuner pvr with 2 scart sockets
5)I have a rooftop ariel as well as the virgin cable.
I would still like to be able to record directly onto a vcr tape as well as onto the pvr -is this possible?
Thanks

Samantha- Plug a scart into the tv socket of the Virgin box and the other end into AV1 of the TV.
Use a second scart and plug into the tv socket of the Humax box and the other end into AV2 of the TV.
Connect a third scart lead into the vcr socket of the virgin box and plug the other end into AV1 of the dvd/vcr combi.
Simply select AV1 on the combi and you can then record from the virgin box. If the combi has a tv/vcr button, use this to switch between the combi and the virgin box.
If the Humax box has RF output, select a spare channel for this unit. Plug the aerial lead into the Humax box, then using an RF lead plug into the combi and so on. Simply select a spare channel,eg pr6 on the vcr/dvd combi and tune in to pick up the Humax box.
Depending on the model of the Humax box, you may only be able to record from the inbuilt tuner and not from an external device.
Hope this helps.

Hi I have a Samsung tv with in built freeview le530 and a humax freesat pvr I have connected the freesat arial to the pvr and the hdmi lead from the pvr to the tv but every time I try auto tune it doesn't pick up any signal or channels, the humax is displaying the channel but the tv is saying weak to no signal, what am I doing wrong is it because of the inbuilt freeview and Freesat arial Dish is in the roof

Sam- You are referring to the Freesat dish? Try unplugging the box, then refit the 'F' connecter, then power up the box.
If this does not work, you may need to get someone to look at the dish and/or Sky coax lead.
