What connections are used from set top box to TV (such as SCART) ?
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV You can use the following ways to connect a set-top box to a TV:
1. SCART on STB to SCART on TV. This provides the best possible connection, with stereo sound and "RGB" highest quality connection;
2. SCART on STB to composite on TV. Older TVs without SCART connections usually have "composite" inputs, usually three "phono" sockets (often red, white and yellow). This offers stereo sound and good picture quality. You will need a special cable from a high-street retailer.
3. UHF ("aerial lead") box to TV. This requires that the STB you choose (all Sky, MOST Freeview) has a UHF output. You will need to "tune" the TV into the box, and you will get OK pictures and only mono sound.
If you are stuck with mono or poor quality sound on the TV, you can still use the SCART output (and the same cable as 2) to a separate amplifier to listen in stereo.

I have a samsung tv,a humax 500gb freeview hd recorder,a panasonic blu ray player,a onkyo av receiver with 5.1 speakers,,can you tell me how to connect it all up and what cables i will need?

steve churchill- You would really need to refer to your instruction books for this info.
Generally speaking however and assuming your sets have these connections, use two HDMI leads to connect the blu-ray player and the freeview recorder to the TV. Also, if you want digital audio, use either(or both) optical and coax leads from each appliance to the AV unit.

I have a virgin set top box, a samsung dvd player, and one hdmi scart lead. Do I need another scart lead in order to connect the dvd to the tv? The samsung dvd player has a hdmi slot on the back, an axial round pin and some coloured round pins. All I have managed to do so far is toget the DVD thingy to open and close. I don't have the original set up instructions because my son's girl friend pased the player on to me when they got their new tv. Thanks.

HI..help pls ..how do you go about connecting an old speaker set (single black and white cable at the back) to a modern digi tv? can it be done directly or do we need an amplifier? can you connect directly via audio cables, red & white? would appreciate some help on this , many thanks/ God bless

matt: You can't just attach speakers to a set, you will need an external amplifier. This will connect using either a stereo-out pair, or for modern equipment, a SPDIF connection.

Hi,Iam connecting my new Samsung HD TV to my old Virgin V ST box via the only scart connection on the TV (with adapter)but keep getting a weak or no signal message. I have my antenna cable connection in the STB rather than the TV is this OK. Should i be using a RBG (from TV)to scart connector (in STB)? The Freeview works but BBC channels are glitchy.

Paul: There is nothing to be gained from attaching your TV aerial to the Virgin box. Just connect it tot the (Freeview) TV set.
Use a SCART to view the channels on the Virgin box.
If you have any other SCART devices, connect these to the SCART socket marked "VCR" on the Virgin box, and put it into standby to see the other device.

hi, i need to connect a tv, a hd digital freeview recorder and a home cinema system. The tv has 3 hdmi sockets, an audio video out (yellow, red an white) a phono output (red and white) and 2 scarts. The freeview box has 1 scart, 1 coaxial output, 1 phono, 1 hdmi and a rf output as well as arial input. The home cinema has 1 scart, 1 hdmi, a digital audio output and an rf socket.
Could you help??

Rach- Simply use two HDMI leads to connect the Freeview box and the s/s system to the TV.
