My Sky box has a "no signal message" - what do I do?
If you are getting the message "no signal" this would indicate that there is a problem with the signal from your dish into your box. Even without a card inserted into a Sky Digibox, if there is a signal, you will always get Sky Guide and the free channels.
Try powering off your box, remove the card, check carefully the cables, especially the connection to the dish, reapply the power and then when asked to insert your card you should then be able to see (for example) Sky News on 501 and the BBC News channel on 503.
Once you can see any channel, reinsert your card. This should, after about one minute, give you the channels you expect, such as 103, 104 and 105.
There are three ways you can attempt to reset your box. Please see
What can my do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' ?.
If you continue to get "No signal", you dish may have been misaligned, or there may be a fault with the cables and connectors, or a problem with the Digibox. You can see the signal strength by pressing SERVICES, then 4-SYSTEM SETUP and 6-SIGNAL STRENGTH.

Mr Habergham:
Try switching off the box with the remote control, then unplug the mains from the wall socket. Wait at least 5 minutes and then put the mains plug back into the wall socket and ensure that socket is witched on if it has a switch. Then wait a further 5 minutes at least. After than, switch the box on with the remote control and check that you see channel 998. If you do then select channel 101 (BBC1) to check that you get the normal channels.

To help you at all we need to know where you live so please give a full post code. We also need to know what equipment you are using. If you are using a Sky box you may need to do a more effective reboot, so you need to turn the mains power off for at least 5 minutes, then turn it back on again and wait a further 5 minutes while the box resets. Then try to see which channels you have.

There are many possibilities.
You should first check that the previous occupant actually had satellite TV services. The presence of a dish and LNB and cables does not mean they are working! You should then check that all of the satellite signal cables and connectors are properly installed and that none of the 'F' connectors for the satellite signals has been damaged or has any short circuits.
The Freeview 'test' is irrelevant as it uses a totally different feed system, from and aerial and not a dish, so has told you only that you can view Freeview.

Hi mike nice to meet you i had the developer round today and they checked the signal from the socket in which they said it was fine yet my sky+ box still says theres no signal.
Also it was freesat that was working not free veiw i understand that freeveiw works through an aerial and im pritty sure freesat still uses a satellite dish. Which has totally thrown me off so im asumming the box may hav some sort of fault
As for checking previous occupiers i am the first as my flat is part of a new build thanks for the help anyway.
Sky engineer is comming on wednesday so im sure i will get to the bottom of it

Gareth:
Freesat, as its name implies, is a satellite based service that is free to use. It has a great many channels that may be of interest, just not some of the subscription channels offered by Sky. See Freesat Channels - Free Satellite TV, HD and Radio Channels for a listing of the Freesat channels.
If you TV can get Freesat, why do you need Sky for an expensive subscription? Sky and Freesat use the same dish and LNB combination so you are able to receive either.
It does rather sound as if the Sky box has a problem.

The expense of sky is something im more than comfortable with one of the reasons i choose sky is because i watch alot of sports which are only shown on sky unless i was to watch them illegally which is somthing i am uncomfortable with.
Thanks for the advise and help mike
