My Sky box has a "no signal message" - what do I do?
If you are getting the message "no signal" this would indicate that there is a problem with the signal from your dish into your box. Even without a card inserted into a Sky Digibox, if there is a signal, you will always get Sky Guide and the free channels.
Try powering off your box, remove the card, check carefully the cables, especially the connection to the dish, reapply the power and then when asked to insert your card you should then be able to see (for example) Sky News on 501 and the BBC News channel on 503.
Once you can see any channel, reinsert your card. This should, after about one minute, give you the channels you expect, such as 103, 104 and 105.
There are three ways you can attempt to reset your box. Please see
What can my do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' ?.
If you continue to get "No signal", you dish may have been misaligned, or there may be a fault with the cables and connectors, or a problem with the Digibox. You can see the signal strength by pressing SERVICES, then 4-SYSTEM SETUP and 6-SIGNAL STRENGTH.

maureen williams: The point is, and as mentioned in my 9:53AM reply on the 12th, insomuch that a Sky box does NOT require to be connected to a dish for you to see its menu on the TV's screen "if" the TV being used has automatically switched (or been done manually) to the TV's scart input socket, as if nothing is seen then that's not a fault connected to the dish / cables but one involving only the TV or the Sky box.
When you had connected the Sky HD box to the TV and only speckles were on the screen, you should have removed that box and connected the other one into the TV instead to determine whether it was the box or the TV at fault, as obviously if the other boxed worked OK then there has to be a problem with the Sky HD box, whereas if still nothing was seen then its the TV at fault.
The secret of successful testing is NOT to swap over more that one device at a time, and the correct procedure is to get a combination of Sky box and TV that works and leave it sitting on BBC, then if its a Sky plus box unscrew the "F" connector on LNB-1 input which should result in the picture vanishing, then unscrew the LNB-2 input connector and swap it over to the No1 position and this action should then return the BBC, if though it didn't then that particular dish feed is faulty.
However, if you find that everything fits in with what has been said then take the SAME TV / box combination to the other position that has feeds coming in from the dish and try exactly the same test again in that position, everything mentioned about assessing results also applies to that test.
All you are really doing is to use the SAME combination of equipment (which you know works) to test the dish feeds in every position one at a time, as if every feed tested results in BBC coming on when using a boxes the boxes LNB-1 input then the fault is not connected to the dish or cable from.
The other point to note being, that you do NOT use a boxes LNB-2 input for any of these tests, as LNB-1 is the priority input that produces a picture on the screen.

jb38, Have tested tv and sky box on quad port used downstairs it works fine.I have another cable connected to quad (by sky man)I need to connect this to working tv and sky box.I cannot get BBC1 on this, only as you explained the usual menus appear.I now have bulging muscles from moving tv,and feel so near yet so far from solving the problem. I guess there must now be a solution, can you please enlighten me,Many thanks.

maureen williams: Now you have found a combination of Sky box and TV that works perfectly OK when connected to one of the input leads from a dish, irrespective of quad or single, then use this TV / Sky box combination to test all of the input leads used in both positions, marking each lead as being OK or not as appropriate.
Of course the only problem when using the same combination of equipment in both places is by having de-power the Sky box when you move its position, this whereby you have to let it go through the usual "searching for listings" procedure before being able to carry on with testing the other sets of leads from the dishes, but when a person has combinations of equipment such as you have, then a methodical approach is essential when carrying out tests of this nature to avoid getting "crossed wires" so to say, that meaning to use exactly the same combination of equipment for each test.
By the way and just for information purposes, there are no technical differences whatsoever between any of the output ports from the blocks whether they be from the quad or the single, as all output ports are identical and likewise can be used for SD or HD, as dishes / LNB's can be used with any satellite receiving equipment.
The whole point of this test being, that should a reception problem crop up when everything is connected back up again, then the LNB's or cables from can be completely excluded from any doubts that may exist as to whether or not they are the cause of the problem.

maureen williams: Ah! in that case you have finally found the faulty port, or maybe the lead / "F" connector to it, so what to do now is leave the Sky box / TV combo in that position and investigate the aforementioned lead / "F" connector by unscrewing it to see if its either saturated with water or that a strand of wire from the braiding is shorting onto the middle connector.
If though it doesn't appear as if there is, then as a temporary measure swap that LNB connection over with the one next to it, as if its the port at fault then your signal should return, if it doesn't then you could re-try the LNB reset procedure as I believe that you have previously done.

If you lose reception, before you ring Sky, look at the back of your Sky box. Input 1 and input 2, swap them over, first putting the box on standby and unplugging it.
This is the first they ask you to do if there isn't a recorded issue at their base.
Apparently it happens after a lot of bad weather.
