Will an aerial booster improve my freeview reception?
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV No, an amplifier won't normally help with a Freeview signal. Can I suggest the following:
1. If you can raise the aerial up by an extra metre or so;
2. Check the direction of the aerial and that the it is either "vertical" or "horizontal" as required.
3. Check that all the connectors and cables are in good condition, look especially for stray wires from the outer shielding on the cable being loose;

Michel: your very nice new tv (one of our favourites at work) is only 4 miles from Crystal Palace! In other words, your far more likely to be suffering from too high signal strength. If you search for 'too much of a good thing' on this website, you'll get a lot of guidance.
Check your signal strength, its probably very high, and the tuners are hating it. You can buy attenuators for less than £2 on Amazon, and they are £2.59 each from Screwfix. I got some fixed ones, which you can put in series if you want.

Michael: I actually confused miles and km - according to the Digital UK tradeview, your actually less than 4 km away from the transmitter, which is even worse.

Hi,
My girlfriend's postcode is SA62 5SH and the signal she receives is atrocious - normally picking up less than ten channels in total. Is there anything we could do other than moving the aerial?

My postcode is M30 9PU, I have recently moved here, NONE on my Tv's work from a booster ariel. at my recent address M30 7HQ they all worked perfectly, all 3 of them. I dont understand this, can anyone advise me. They are all digital freeview, and I would rather not have to sign up to sky or VM. thanks.

amanda: When you mention "booster aerial" where exactly is this aerial located? because should you be referring to an indoor type of the "same room as the TV" variety then this is unlikely to work at the location given.
If though the aerial is installed on the roof or in the loft and its feeding into a booster / distribution amplifier, then check that the power supply to the device is switched on.

Hello,
I have a tv in the bedroom with an internal aerial but I can't pick up any channels. Somebody on here suggested I took the tv to the main aerial so that I could store channels in the memory then take it back to the bedroom and retune. This hasn't changed anything. Would a booster help or do I need a better aerial?!?

russ: If you have verified that the channels have indeed been stored in the TV whilst it was still connected into the main aerial and yet you are unable to view anything via the indoor aerial, then its extremely unlikely that any form of booster (no matter how powerful) would help the situation, as a booster would only have helped if you had managed to obtain a picture of sorts.
If at all possible, you would be better purchasing a two way powered splitter
and running a coax from its No2 outlet into the bedroom, its No1outlet used to feed
the main TV.

Hi,
I live in Chandlers Ford and recently my freeview signal strength has deteriorated to the point of obtaining no signal/to weak to receive a picture on my freeview.
My aerial is only 4years old and directed at Rowridge transmiter to the receive the best strength possible (around 27%) will an amplifier help or due to the number of mobile phone transmitters near by will I require a suppressor?
All help will be appreciated.
