Can I use my ex-contract sky digital satellite receiver to get Freeview channels
You can get the following Freeview channels on with an ex-contract digital satellite receiver (once it is connected). Items marked with a star require either a Freesat from Sky (fSfS) card, or a expired Sky subscription card to view.

michael: Yes, you don't need a card for the free-to-air channels.

Hi Brian. i need some advise please.
I have a satalite dish in my garden for which the wire has been cut at the aerial connection point.
i have no sky box or any other. My question is once i replace or repair the wire should i buy a free sat box or sky plus box? ebay have both for sale.(sky plus boxes more expensive)
i dont want to pay any monthly fees and believe this is the best option, also what is the difference. i believe you need a viewing card for the plus box?....

Dips: I would advise you buy a Freesat box, a Sky+ box will do nothing special without a contract.

ray: No, you can't record on a Sky+ box without a Sky contract.

I currently have sky HD+ box but due to current government cuts can no longer afford £60+ per month on a Sky suscription. Having read the above answers with great interest I can see that I can use this box still with my old subscription card which is great news however I'm disappointed that i won't be able to record on the box now!
How will I record my favourite programs in HD now?
