Mendip transmitter - January 11th retune required
At the moment, viewers using the Mendip transmitter are unable to subscribe to Sky Sports 1 and 2 via BT Vision and/or Top Up TV - see BT Vision, TUTV, Sky Sports 1+2 and the Mendip transmitter - ukfree.tv.
To deal with this, on 11th January 2011, Multiplex D will change from being broadcast on C59+ in 16QAM mode, and switch to be the "normal" Arqiva B multiplex (10kW ERP) on C67 in 64QAM mode.
It will stay there until it moves to C52 on 28 September 2011. This date also sees Multiplex COM4/SDN move from C62+ to C48 and COM5/ARQA move from C56+ to C56.
In summary - if you use Mendip - even if you don't use Sky Sports, you must retune again on 11th January 2011.
When you retune - use a "first time installation" or do this - My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong
Note: This event is not part of the digital switchover process, and is not being managed by Digital UK, but by Arqiva and ITV.
If you have any questions, please call ITV on 0844 881 4150.
David: To answer your questions:
1. Yes.
2. Yes, wait.
3. No.

My Digitalstream DHR8205U had decided to "rearrange" my channel line-up this morning. 1 was showing BBC HD, instead of BBC 1 and 2 was showing ITV 1. Also the channels on multiplex D were missing. If it hadn't been for this item I would not have known that two seperate incidents had caused this. A power cycle of the box restored the core channel line-up, and then a manual delete of dead services, and then manual scan of channel 67 restored the missing ones. Note that doing a full rescan loses your recording schedule on some Freeview + boxes.

Thanks for your quick response. I had a local (CAI approved) installer in today for a quote for replacing my current config with two roof mounted wideband aerials on a 6' pole. Quote is £190 inc. VAT. Is this reasonable??

David: It's quite typical. If it is reasonable, that's possibly another question.

Brian, but that would lose the entire recording schedule. Selectively doing it only affects any scheduled recordings on the rescanned channels.

I went ahead with the quote today and can report:- The installer fitted two high gain, wide-band aerials to the chimney on a 6' pole and fed the cables throught the wall to the loft into my existing combining box.
Channel 67 (10kw) from Mendip is coming through at 90-95% signal strength (it did not exceed 50% before) and all Wenvoe channels broadcasting at 50kw are also running at 90-95% strength - 100% quality.

David: Sounds like you will have a full set of Welsh and English SD and HD channels.
