Channel One to close, Challenge to come to Freeview
Sky is closing one pay and one free channel from the portfolio it bought from Virgin TV, because they match channels already provided by Sky.
Bravo and Channel One (which was Virgin 1 and before that FTN) will close.
This means that the Channel One slot on Freeview will be replaced with the quiz show channel Challenge.
Challenge is now in the Freeview guide on 46. If you can't see it yet, please follow these instructions on your set-top box or Freeview TV: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv.

The new channel is just another "filler". it was a huge mistake to take channel one of the air but if murdoch thinks I am going to subscribe he can get lost.
We all miss the sci fi stuff that they showed but now I hardly bother with the channels by freeview.
To be honest channel 4 is fast becoming the most entertaining with the dross that is left.
Has freeview forgotten that old addage "quality before quantity".

Channel one was launched by Richard Branson
just to annoy Rupert Murdoch
when they had a dispute of shares in ITV
Branson dropped Sky1 from the virgin cable roster and replaced it with Virgin1 which later became channel 1 now that they have resolved their differences it was time to drop channel one as it had served its purpose

I may be in the minority but I quite like watching the old quiz progs on Challenge. The problem is that I have now given money grabbing Sky the elbow and gone to Freesat (not the Sky version). Does anyone know of any plans to put Challenge on Freesat?

Ray: I would expect hell to freeze over before Challenge is on Freesat. Sky don't even list their free-to-air Sky News on Freesat.

Sky pure and simply are a greedy, money driven organisation. I hate the repeating on freeview and even though channel one was removed I will NEVER subscribe to Sky just to watch fresh prince and a few sports channels. I'm in a bad posistion as BT Vision is being considered as my first choice. Sky you're well behind freeview.
Bring back Channel One Now!!
