Channel One to close, Challenge to come to Freeview

Changes to Freeview after Sky buys VTV channels

Changes to Freeview after Sky buys VTV channels
published on UK Free TV

Sky is closing one pay and one free channel from the portfolio it bought from Virgin TV, because they match channels already provided by Sky.

Bravo and Channel One (which was Virgin 1 and before that FTN) will close.

This means that the Channel One slot on Freeview will be replaced with the quiz show channel Challenge.

Challenge is now in the Freeview guide on 46. If you can't see it yet, please follow these instructions on your set-top box or Freeview TV: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv.

leah: They have been trying for years to wreak the Freeview experience. For example - Sky Picnic - or Payview? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

Channel One was my fave channel on Freeview prior to its demise. The reason why C1 was closed was because Sky believe it's too silmiar to Sky3. It is a blow for Freeviewers.

This is how C1 closed:

Final ident with no voiceover
Sky1 Hawaii Five-0 promo
Sky Living Bedlam promo

After this Sky pulled the plug on Freeview's most fave channel.
The on screen card that was on C1 said:
Channel One is no longer broadcasting. For more info on where to find where your fave shows have moved to visit Sky.com/mytv.

RIP Channel One (2002-2011)

Missed Star Trek this afternoon along with a lot of others. Not that Sky care one iota about what the people who can only get freeview want to watch, or what we think.

I read a book this afternoon and then went out seeing as Star Trek is now gone. What I have not done is re-tune my box to get that other channel they have put on in its place and I will not be bothering either. There is more than enough shite on freeview already.

Greedy lot of so and so's

Reading this has convinced me that my opinion of Sky is correct and that they are a total waste! I ordered Sky TV, Broadband & telephone when I moved into my new home this month. They made such a complete pigs ear of everything I cancelled it all and went with BT. More efficient and far better than Sky; I'll never go back and I'll advise others to avoid them as well

Colin: Sky certainly used to have a good reputation for customer service.

Its about time sky realized that not everyone can afford their rip off prices and freeview is a lot of peoples only option mine included.

Mr Grumpy: They are quite aware of that. They don't regard themselves as a "public service" but as a company that makes a serious profit.

They make their serious profit at the expense of those people who are on low income then. How typical is that.
