Real XS closing on dab at the end of the month. Now no choice for classic rock in stereo. No doubt more of the same "capital" dross to take it's place. I think there now needs to be a law, as there is in the Netherlands which bans simulcasting, to give minority interests a chance. I now see no advantage of dab.
At least at home there's internet radio.

I assume you're in the North East or in the Severn Estuary region.
Real XS is on the MXR regional multiplex which is closing down because the licence operator has handed the licence back, and there were no other interested parties for it. You can't force someone to continue with a broadcast licence if it reaches the expiry date and they no longer want it.
There have been some big changes with Netherlands DAB recently, and analogue stations will be simulcast on the national DAB+ multiplex from 1 September 2013. If there was a ban on simulcasting it has now been lifted.

I have read Global Radio's excuse for closing MXR and can't understand their logic. How can releasing a regional mux free up space for local muxes. If a mux is on say 10C a nabouring mux cannot be on the same channel with different content.

Betamax_man: There is a national plan to reoganise all of the muxes to match that of the current local radio areas. Releasing the regional muxes is "part of the plan".
See Ofcom | Annex B. Local DAB build-out plans .

The latest PURE email advertising an in-car
radio merits wordwise reading between the lines :-
"... on the move with our new Highway H240Di. Not only do you get DAB for high-detail, digital-quality sound, you also get FM and AM for any stations that haven't yet gone digital. ..."

Quiz question : which words above might be interpreted as aluding to low bit-rate ???

Postscript : I have peeked at the spec. As this model would craftily get me BBC local radio on **AM** and the rest on FM, it might prove to be a winner while waiting and waiting and waiting for DAB coombe-dale-and-coast-swamping.

My Aldi DAB radio plays up on the hour exactly when the pips are broadcast, happens on various channels.
It can change station, make voices go slow or just disrupt the program ?
