What price for an aerial installation?
In responses to the guideline I posted about how much having a new aerial fitted should cost, Ian Grice posted: "£40-£50? Every aerial fitter I contacted wants at least £150+VAT considering you can get a class 3 aerial for under £10 and a class 2 for under £15 and cable is 40p a metre why are they charging so much for 30 minutes work?"
OK, for some places putting up a TV aerial is hard work, such as multi-story properties. As many people will simply be exchanging a Group A, B, C/D, E or K aerial for a wideband type, often without changing the supporting pole or cable, a high price cannot be justified.
I am concerned that some companies will exploit vulnerable groups (such as the elderly).
So, I what prices have you been quoted for aerial installations? What price have you paid for installation?
Do you know of any companies to avoid? Do you know of any companies that are good value for money?
Or do you work for a great aerial installation company?

One for all the riggers out there triax have brought out there new link to use with new sky hd boxes . It has aerial in and rf 1 and rf2 like the old sky hd boxes, there is also an dc input so it can power any compact amplifier attached. This is more expensive then the global I o link but a lot better.

£45 - £50K just how does an 'employed rigger' earn that sort of money?
I bet there are many self employed who don't earn that sort of money.

sorry mazbar but any contracter here in Sussex having just spoken to a friend of mine who is a rigger says that I'm correct and that is the standard basic charge for a aerial from a professional listed trader .
there are trader's for a basic install who charge £250 plus so you see there is wide variation across the uk in having work done
i myself was charged £653 five years ago from a top Sussex trader for a full install in a new house which was way over the top and eventually got a £100 refund so even people like myself can get caught out by a rouge element within what had been a good business previously

NICK ADSL UK: I have just had someone ring me up today asking for a price gave them my prices it was £69 for rx12 to £85 for mrz 20 all I got was oh I'm ringing around for prices so if I charged £200 I would get no work. At my prices I am expensive here what am I to do. People do get what they pay for though. I went to a job today aerial in the loft with 3 splitters on it feeding 4 points none of them worked, I wouldn't mind but there was a 13amp socket next to the aerial all it needed was an amp.

well that is i guess the north south divide at work which is unfortunate but London and the south is a basically a like it or leave it from all the professional listed traders as are all trades and even thou you can pay over the odds the overall standard is still found wonting
at the end of the day it's all about customers feedback when you get that right your laughing get it wrong and you will struggle especially where i live near gatwick

Ian: That's a fair point about the fact that it should perhaps have been a new mast. He was going to put the aerial on the chimney but we agreed it would be better at the back of the house on an existing mast which I don't expect to fall down within the next 20 years or so.
At least I was happier with this rigger's work than I was from previous experiences.

Paul: Yes they are. see the details at Winter Hill (Bolton, England) transmitter | ukfree.tv - 11 years of independent, free digital TV advice The reason is that there is no room on PSB3 for any more HD channels.
