Alan Sims: Yes, but only the Public Service Broadcaster multiplexes. It will not carry the commercial channels. It is a Freeview Light transmitter:

We have had really poor Freeview signal to all of our TV's since last night (24th March 2012). All of our TV's had worked fine since retuning on the 21st, and even prior to that we have had no problems. All devices have been reset etc. I have checked the aerial and found no problem, I have even tried repositioning it, making no difference! I see that work is being carried out at Winterbourne Stcikland, is work being carried out there affecting service in Blandford Forum?
Many thanks

I live in Sturminster Marshall Dorset. Your maps indicate that I should be receiving programmes from Winterbourne Stickland but my aerial, on the roof, is pointing to the IOW transmitter. Should I have my aerial realigned to receive a better picture

Robert Wood: The Winterbourne Stickland transmitter broadcasts only Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) channels whereas Rowridge on the IOW is a full-service transmitter (it broadcasts Commercial (COM) channels as well.
Rowridge broadcasts horizontally and vertically and has been doing so since April. The COM channels aren't as strong horizontally, so better reception of those may be gained by switching the aerial to vertical polarisation.
See this page for which service are carried on PSBs and which on COMs:

Advertised are 70 free view channels I have just spent money to put up a free view Arial and can only get 20 from Strickland why and will this improve
link to this comment |
Ian Young: Winterbourne Strickland is a Light transmitter, and will always be so. Its never had 70 channels, never been advertised as such, and never will - advertisers dont care enough about you, and hence the commercial channels dont want to broadcast to you.
If you'd checked, you would have probably gone for Freesat instead.
