Can you tell me why reception should be any different after sept 2012 ??
Post code predictors are OK as a guide,but I would suggest you go to a local electrical Independent retailer to give you the best advise on your locality.

The reception map is not very accurate. If you move the whole of the yellow area up to follow the coastline,it will give you a more accurate idea of the reception coverage.

Hansfritz: If you actually read the key, you will see that the "yellow area" indicates the places where the signal is stronger from the transmitters, and "green" is for coverage where there is another transmitter with a stronger signal.

Yes thank-you Brian. I understand the key. But the map is still incorrect. The Yellow dosent cover some of the strongest signal areas for the west-runton transmitter.
If you zoom in the map,the whole of the east side of Sheringham is in the white. I expect this to be one of the strongest signal areas.
Other people will do the same as me and zoom the map. When they see there street is in white,they will wonder if reception will be possible.
The map is in-accurate.

Hansfritz: And, as I said already, the area is also covered by 10kW signals from Tacolneston which are stronger at the locations shown in green than those from 2kW West Runton.

Would you mind actually looking at the map Brian. Then zooming in over the yellow area. Look at the un-coloured area over Sheringham and along the coast to Cromer. Surely that area should all be Yellow,as it will be Some of the strongest signal positions from the west-runton transmitter.
If a concerned tv viewer was to see that there road was not in the yellow,then they might think that they will not be able to receive Freeview.
Can you also comment on the quote from Mike Dimmick above who said the signal will deteriorate after september 2012.Why will it deteriorate?

my mother in east runton and my partner in sheringham cannot receive ITV3, or Film 4. I live in Sheringham and have my aerial pointed at Yorkshire.... and get loads more channels than they can.
Is this a transmission difference or is it an aerial problem?

Dr W Thatcher: The answer to the question may depend on what transmitter(s) they are using.
The West Runton transmitter broadcasts Anglia regional programming, but does not carry the Commercial channels such as ITV3 or Film 4.
Those south of The Wash, along the North Norfolk coast, may have two aerials which were installed for analogue so that BBC Two and Channel 4 could be received from Belmont (the Yorkshire region transmitter) and BBC One and ITV could be received from a local relay. This allowed reception of Anglia regional programming. However, depending on the set-up, this may cause difficulty with reception of some digital services and may therefore require adjustment.
As well as answering the question, what transmitter(s) are they using, can you say whether they have more than one aerial connected (diplexed) together because this will likely have a bearing?

Ron Gibbs: Unfortunately not.
There are now two types of broadcaster in the UK: Public Service (PSB) and Commercial (COM).
The Commercial ones are purely profit-driven organisations and the Public Service ones, as the name implies, have a Public Service obligation.
The COM channels achieve coverage of 90% of the population by broadcasting from 81 of the largest transmitters (largest by viewer population).
There are over 1,000 PSB-only relays like West Runton which serve about 8.5% of the population. For the COMs to add them to their portfolio would roughly double their cost of transmission. As they operate purely for profit derived from advertisers which requires viewers, then they wish to acquire most viewers at lowest possible cost. For this reason it isn't surprising that they don't wish to double their cost of transmission in order to add about 10% to their existing viewer base.
Along the North Norfolk coast Belmont comes in well and this is a full-service transmitter. It is, as you may know, a transmitter for the Yorkshire region.
In some cases where reception from two transmitters is possible, the feeds from each aerial can be combined. This requires the signals from each transmitter to be in different parts of the band.
West Runton uses low (Group A) UHF channels (frequencies) and COM5 and COM6 from Belmont are C/D ones (high channels) and this means that the two aerial approach will work. (This obviously assumes that reception from both transmitters is possible.)
However, because COM4 from Belmont is low down in Group A, it will be unavailable.

For example, ITV3 is on COM4, Pick TV is on COM5 and Yesterday is on COM6.
Your other possibility is to have a Belmont aerial fitted (assuming reception is possible) but not combine it with West Runton. This will mean that you will need at least two receivers.
For example, if you have a recorder, you may have this tuned to Belmont. The West Runton aerial may feed a simple set-top box receiver thus allowing you to switch to it when there are regional variations you wish to view.
