bob thompson: West Runton will unfortunately only transmit the three PSB muxes. The Digital UK postcode checker predicts that both Belmont and Tacolneston will probably be receivable at your location with variable reception. If you currently receive Mux1 from Belmont there is a good chance that you will receive Mux SDN (which carries ITV3) after switchover as it will use the frequency vacated by Mux1.

Hi
Is this the final set of channels for West Runton or will other common digital channels such as Dave, Yesterday, etc be added at a later date?
Regards P

Paul: It is very unlikely that the COM muxes will ever be added, the owners of the muxes were asked if they wished to extend the service to more sites but declined on the grounds that the cost of provision would more than double whilst adding only a small percentage of extra viewers. In many cases the missing channels can be received via satellite or cable, or by installing an aerial for reception from one of the main stations.

Paul: hi am bob i live in cromer too, whereabouts rougly are ya, im near the sea front and receive freeview via belmont transmitter across the wash to lincolnshire using a wideband aerial and a booster, freeview not too bad. first stage of switchover on tuesday this week the bbc mux on fr22 is showing very good results, so hopefully when all complete should be full service when powered up. also i understand talconeston will be powered up in november also so think chances of full services are pretty good. you could always try these options as runton will only be carrying freeview lite service. let me know roughly where ya are and will advise on ya best option.

I am waiting hopefully for freeview from the west runton transmitter but checking on the map it appears the signal stops about 500 mts up the road from my house. (Displayed as yellow on the mapping). Is there a chance it will connect or is the cut off line set in stone for the signal.

Cavendish: West Runton DSO starts on 9th November, so right now there's no digital signal (but not long to wait!). DSO completes on 23rd November - you'll then have the three PSB MUXs as intended (but none of the COM MUXs - they're only available from the Tacolneston Tx).
You're comfortably inside the West Runton reception area.

Cavendish: Digital UK's postcode predictor gives you an excellent chance of getting a full service from the Belmont transmitter in north Lincolnshire. This transmits Yorkshire local news. The probability of reliable results from West Runton is shown as substantially lower and is expected to deteriorate after September 2012; it is your best option for BBC Look East and ITV1 Anglia, however.
You should actually be able to get four out of the six multiplexes from Belmont now; the other two are on low power to avoid interfering with services from Tacolneston. You would need a wideband aerial for all six once they power up, which happens after Tacolneston switches over.
Relay transmitters are usually directional, transmitting most of their power in one or two directions. Unfortunately, we don't know what the radiation pattern is. Given the distance between you and the transmitter, and the relatively high power level, I have to assume that there is quite a high restriction in your direction.

Can you tell me why reception should be any different after sept 2012 ??
Post code predictors are OK as a guide, but I would suggest you go to a local electrical Independent retailer to give you the best advise on your locality.
