We still can not get half of the channels we used to receive from the Waltham transmitter, including ITV programmes, channel-4 and channel-5.
We contacted the local TV ariel company again and was told that it is a widespread problem here in north nottinghamshire and that it will probably be November before we can get these channels again as the signal is not of sufficient strength as yet to reach the area.
Is this true, and if so why is it happening?

im an oap in uppingham rutland we get our signal from waltham buts its very weak barely a signal got a freeview engineer out to sort it out he struggled to find a signal even after fitting a new outdoor ariel he said the problems widespread in my town i just want to watch tv & the amount i have spent getting ready for freeview now comes to £300 for new tv & £180 for ariel engineer £480 in total the end result is ive got 14 tv & radio channels 3 shopping channels 1 gay dating site 3 adult channels cbbc cbeebies more 4 thats about it im going to refuse to pay my license if i cant receive any channels whats the point

i had all the channels than i bought a new tv with freeview built in and now i cant get mux 1 and a. i have tried the self help and a booster not sure if i pick the waltham transmitter or belmont and the aerial is on the roof please help

sheilan: Yes, you will have to wait until 31 Aug 11 when the multiplex moves to C54- at switchover.

billy: You will have to wait for the full power Freeview signals at switchover, as you are not in a full-service area until then.
You must pay your TV Licence if you have a TV set, that is the law.
You could move your aerial to point at the Belmont transmitter, you will receive all service from there today.

Billy (1.50pm posting): As far as your Aunt is concerned, if its the area I think that you may be referring to there is a great possibility that Freesat might well be her only option as RF dead areas do exist and Uppingham does contain some difficult terrain as far as reception is concerned, however as far as your own reception is concerned do you know if the aerial installer actually tested for a signal from Sandy (Anglia) rather than concentrating on Waltham?
The reason I enquire is, I am located in a difficult area West of Stamford and prior to Sandy's "main" transmitters switching to high power operation I could barely receive any signal whatsoever from there, whereas after switchover I immediately started to receive quite a viewable signal on my Panasonic TV with indications of approx 65% strength and 85% quality, however after having made some alterations to my aerial set up I now get a consistent 100% on both strength and quality (inc perfect HD channel reception!), these results now enabling me to use Sandy as my main station and keep Waltham as the second choice via a differently positioned aerial.
It should be said though that in difficult non line of sight areas involving valleys etc the usual rule adopted by many (although not all!) aerial installers of "one type fits all" (usually some form of Yagi and mounted as high as possible) can actually result in an inferior signal, as in these type of situations experimentation is always necessary for satisfactory results, with in my particular case me finding that the aerial directed towards Sandy gave a far superior signal / quality reading when mounted at a particular gutter level position to when being tried out on the chimney.
That said though, I would hold off doing anything until after Waltham has switched to high power operation in August, as I feel that a high percentage of problems presently experienced by many who use this transmitter could well be rectified after this event, that is allowing for the fact that digital terrestrial reception can never really be as glitch free as what's obtained from satellite reception.

karen: Waltham is at 221 degrees, roughly SW from your location. Aerials on Belmont point in a NNE/NE direction at 31 degrees.The Digital UK postcode checker predicts a full service from Waltham but only four muxes from Belmont, no prediction being offered for MuxC or MuxD. Have you checked the 800s of the channel list for duplicate BBC channels? It is possible that weak Belmont channels were found and stored before the stronger Waltham signal was found.Regarding MuxA from Waltham it is just possible that analogue Channel 4 on C29 from Bilsdale is strong enough to cause interference. After Bilsdale switchover Mux SDN is shown as variable reception for you from Waltham. Did you try doing a factory reset before scanning in case any channel information was already stored which was confusing the tuner?
