Ian from notts /Paul Stableford: That was also my initial suspicion with regards to this problem, Samsung's manual for that model running true to form by not being particularly helpful by omitting to provide info on the tuner, but though the link to the specifications for that model could suggest (and only suggest!) that it does have a DVB-T2 tuner.

jb38: I can confirm that the Samsung does have twin HD tuners - Samsung does occasionally have 'fat fingers' on its website! The turners are described by Samsung as not being the most sensitive...
There is one thing that occured to me, but I've held off becuase it seems a very stupid question: Paul Stableford - are you using an HDMI lead to connect it to your TV?
Most PVR's now have nothing but an HDMI output, in line with most TV's, where HDMI's make up the bulk of the inputs. Humax is pretty unusual in having an actual scart as well, but I notice that the Samsung does (slightly unusually) have RCA outputs as well as HDMI (which it has to have, since its a Blu-Ray), so you can connect it to a non-HDMI equiped TV.
Here's the thing - on some boxes, if you use the non-HD connections, the box concludes you cannot use HD, and therefore simply does not show you any HD channels in the EPG. Since you said you have an HD ready TV, I assume you are, but its a thought. Its always worth swapping out the HDMI lead to make sure its not dodgy, although it should make no difference.
Frankly, this model is widely seen as a bit of a lemon, and hopefully this years models are back on form - the Panasonic eqivalant is actually slightly cheaper this year, which might be a good alternative. Hopefully, Paul did not pay too much for it!

Hi All,
Thanks for the advice regarding my media centre. Eventually pointed my aerial at Sutton Coldfield, re-tuned and all is well. WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) has returned (few!)

MikeB: Re: Samsung BD-E8900 HD problem, many thanks for your confirmation on the issue of the tuner as I did note you mention in your original reply to MikeB as having had dealings with these models in one way or another, this being in contrast to myself who has not.
I fully agree with that said in the last paragraph of your posting, as on having read a few reports from owners of these devices they certainly seem to attract complaints.

Hi Thomas,
You've been lurking, hoping for a solution :-)
No such luck I'm afraid. I took the matter up with ITV, pointing them to this forum and the number of people complaining. After completing some requested detail I received a response today. The interesting bit reads:
Quote
The mast operator is reporting no issues with the signal from Waltham and I can confirm that we have received no similar complaints from viewers.
As you suspect, this does appear to be a specific issue with your own equipment and I can only suggest that you contact your service supplier to see if they have a solution. Please be assured, however, that I have passed your details to our Infrastructure team and if they have any information for you I will be in touch again.
End quote..
For 'issue with your equipment' read Windows Media Centre and for 'service supplier', (given the information I gave them) they can only mean Microsoft... From Stef's email above (4 July) 'Please await until Microsoft release new update for this issue.'
Or everyone could email ITV on viewerservices@itv.com

I live in Duffield, Derbyshire and use the Waltham transmitter. Have lost all Freeview services overnight on both TVs, and noticed that the repeater aerials in Derbyshire are all operating on reduced power, yet it shows no Engineering work or faults on Waltham. Is anyone else suffering also ? Have they reduced the signal strength at Waltham ?

For the WMC users that are having problems with the waltham transmitter, i have managed to tune the PSB2 channels to the Belmont tansmitter ie. 506MHz for those channels as i had around 56% signal strength (I live in central leicester). You could always point your aerial to the sutton transmitter aswell and that should bring back those channels.
