I live in central true and the freeview is poor as I only get 12 channels plus some radio. This is the same on the bt-vision box or tv with build in dtv. A new tv airial fitted 2 years ago before we went digital. Any suggestions or is anyone having/had the same problems?

Sara: It is the case that around 8% of the population that can get Freeview, cannot get all the channels.
If you are in Truro and aerial is directed to the transmitter in the town, then you won't get the commercial channels because the Truro transmitter only relays BBC, ITV1, ITV2, C4, E4, More4, C5, four HD channels and a few others.

I also live in central Truro and only get a minimal amount of channels... if i turn/extend the aerial will i be able to get more channels? Or is this just something we have to put up with in living in Truro?

zoe: An exact location, preferrably in the form of a post code might help assess the possibility of reception of another transmitter. The question is perhaps not quite one of "if" you direct your aerial at another transmitter, but rather if you can ever receive a stable signal from another transmitter.
The fact that Truro is in a valley reduces the chances; indeed the reason for the need for the relay is because the populas is low down and cannot "see" any other transmitter.
The reason you only get a limited number of channels from the Truro relay is outlined in the link provided by Briantist on 17 January. As explained, this is unlikely to change.
