Corin: I am not "claiming" anything; merely stating information found elsewhere.

Two sources quote 2kW for Storeton Wales:

- DTT licences V7 (27/01/12):

Ofcom | Supplementary licence documents in relation to DSO

- Digital UK Tradeview. Take this sample post code and then scroll down to the Storeton Wales transmitter. Then hover your mouse over the channel numbers and a tooltip will appear stating 2kW:

Postcode Checker - Trade View

The Digitak UK Installer Newsletter you linked to is dated December 2008. Page 7 of the Ofcom document you refer to was last updated in January 2011, although the "Document History" on the last page doesn't mention that the reason for update was Storeton's ERP.

The author of this site has commented before that those Ofcom documents don't seem to be up to date and has been relying on the licences document instead.

There is of course no reason to suspect any are incorrect; it may have been 500W when it was put together.

"merely stating information found elsewhere."

Well the source of that information is what I am trying to obtain.

"Two sources quote 2kW for Storeton Wales"

Thank you for the links. On that page going back to the earliest licence document covering all multiplexes -- version 2 -- dated March 16th, 2011, that also shews Storeton Wales as 2 kW.

So sometime between January 2011 and March 2011, an increase in the ERP of Storeton Wales was approved and presumably put into operation.

As you surely appreciate, trying to find reliable information from either the OfCon site or the Digital UK site requires significant effort if one does not know where each has buried the relevant documentation and requiring a PDF download to view.

Thank you for your assistance.

Corin: I'm not a professional myself, but I agree that it appears that the current power is now greater than was previously planned.

I have seen this before; where the Ofcom document (the PDF regional ones you linked to) was out of date. These do seem to be more friendly to read than the licences one.

It seems that whoever was keeping them up-to-date isn't do as well now.

The Digital UK Newsletter has a date on and I wouldn't expect it to be updated. The Tradeview predictor system, on the other hand, is presumably updated as situations change.

Something else I just noticed is that under the Transmission Frequencies

"After Wednesday 2nd December 2009"

Storeton Wales PSB-3 (BBC B) on UHF channel 60 is missing!

Noticed that there has been some work done recently. About that time, the BBC Digital (and others sharing PSB1
BBCA) tends to lose signal and strength when it's raining to the effect that it's coming up "no signal, check aerial" All the other programmes are coming through 100% signal and quality although COM6 ArqB seems slightly lower than normal but picture & sound OK bar a little blocking and occasional stutter.
I first suspected water in the co-ax but why is only that group affected if that's the case?
Any thoughts appreciated before I get someone up on the roof.

Colin Hill: If the 100% signal and quality are showing on two separate bars then this is not really an ideal level to be running at, as any further increases (caused by signal reflections etc) is liable to result in the tuner being slightly overloaded, the symptoms of being exactly the same as would be experienced with a weak signal

Your local transmitter is indicated as being Storeton @ 6 miles / 257 degrees with the aerial being mounted vertically, but I notice that there seems to be a level of uncertainty in your area as to where the best signal is from, as some aerials are facing Storeton and others Winter Hill, but should it be Storeton then you have to beware of the fact that the signal "might" be a little too high even although the transmitter is only rated with an ERP of 560 watts, and so whilst on the BBC mux take the aerial out and try a test with either a set top aerial or a short piece of wire (two or three feet long ) and see if any picture of sorts is obtained.

Of course this test is not necessary if you are using a signal booster, as just try by-passing the booster.

You could also double check that the BBC mux is from Storeton on mux channel 26 (Winter Hill being 28) as its not entirely impossible for Winter hills BBC to have been stored during an auto-tune if Storeton's BBC was down slightly at the time, the mux channel number of the transmitter being seen associated with the signal levels on the check screen.

It may well prove that it isnt an excessive signal level that's causing the problem, but the possibility of has to be eliminated.
