My postcode is BD23 2QJ. My freeview box is saying no signal on all channels and had been like this for nearly 30 min. I have checked all connections and re tuned but still nothing. Is there a problem with the transmitter please? Thanks

Kim Wilman: Have you confirmed that BBC channels are being received from the transmitter to which your aerial faces rather than another one?

The signal strength screen should tell you which UHF channel (frequency) it is tuned to. Skipton transmitter at East Marton is on C39 and Skipton Town, situated at Greatwood is C24, these channels applying for BBC standard definition services (and BBC radio) only.

It may be that your aerial points westwards to Skipton but that Skipton Town is tuned, perhaps because it is found first during the scan. If so then have the aerial out for the first 30% of the scan.

I want to be able to watch Drama and Alibi. I live at BD23 2BA and cannot get either of them. I cannot work out whether our TV comes via Skipton or Skipton Town. Can anyone tell me how I can receive these channels, please? I gather that Freesat wouldn't make any difference if I got it, and would also like to know if that is true.

E.Hatfield: Neither Drama nor Alibi are broadcast on Freesat, although both are available on Sky satellite, Drama being on Sky 166 and with Alibi on Sky 132, the problem being that both are encrypted whereby they can only be viewed as part of a subscription package.

Drama on the other hand is available on Freview (20), the problem for you being that its transmitted on the COM4 multiplex which is only available from main stations and not secondary Freeview light transmitters such as Skipton or Skipton Town, the latter indicated as being just over 0.5 miles from your location and as such the station that serves your area.

You can easily check this by carrying out a signal check on BBC1, because the Mux channel number is usually indicated along with the strength / quality of the signal, Skipton being C39 whereas Skipton Town is C24.

Transmitter engineering: Ever since the signal went off on Wednesday, I have not been able to get any aerial signal for either the lounge TV (connected to BT box) or our other TV (which is a 6 month old Panasonic Freeview TV). Why is this?

Simon Sutcliffe: It seems that there is engineering work currently taking place at the Skipton transmitter. You indicate that you have frequent problems, however the last engineering notice (prior to today) was back in July so it seems likely that you may have a problem with your aerial system (although any attempts at fault finding should be delayed until the transmitter engineering work is completed).
